I am running Plex DVR on a Synology NAS with a strange problem. Most shows and programs record perfectly fine, but some of them do not transfer to the Recording Schedule after selected for recording in the Program Guide and therefore not being recorded.
I have reinstalled my tuner. Refreshed the channels. Any other suggestions?
Plex Server for Windows (Win10) Version 1.7.5.4035
Current Behavior:
I am again having trouble with Live TV and DVR here in Waco, TX. I record my local news on Channel 25. During weekdays at 11:30am and Weekends at 5:30/6:00pm (Sat/Sun) and 10:00pm it is called “Texas Report.” During Weekdays it is called News25 at 5:00pm (at 6:00pm and NightBeat at 10:00pm.) I had to set each program to record separately due to the name being different. And for the most part, it works without issue.
However, for some reason, no matter what, the weekend news Texas Report 10:00pm Sat/Sun is never seen and therefore never recorded. It’s odd - last night, Plex showed it was a show currently on, had the “series” logo recording icon on it and showed how much time was remaining. After the show completed, I went in and it never actually recorded. It’s as if PLEX is skipping the show at 10:00pm on the weekends.
Any thoughts?
Steps Taken:
Deleted series recording
setup series recording (same behavior)
Refreshed Enhanced Program Guide (same behavior)
From the screen shots I am uploading, you can clearly see that PLEX never actually has set the 10:00pm weekend slot to record
Recordings show that they are scheduled in the Program Guide. But in the Recording Schedule, they are not listed. They are listed in the priority list, but marked as “No upcoming airings”. I currently have 4 movies set to record that are exhibiting this problem.
If the show is called Texas Report and is aired twice in one day with no method of determining the difference in episodes other than Episode 08-13 as shown in one of the screenshots how would Plex know that the 10:00 pm airing of Texas Report Episode 08-13 is different than the 5:30 pm? Guess I am lucky that local news where I am does not use the same Show title for different new broadcasts, they append the time to the show title or name so each show is different so I see news 19 at 5:00 PM, News 19 at 6:00 PM, News 19 at 11:00 PM, etc.
I found out the cause of my issue as well. For me, these movies are airing multiple times, and I guess these are already in my library (didn’t even know it). So even though they’re marked to record, Plex knows I’ve already got it, and won’t schedule. it.
I upgraded to PLEX Server Version 1.8.0.4109 over the weekend. I deleted the recording from the schedule and re-added it back to the recording schedule. Same behavior.
I will update to 1.8.1.4139-c789b3fbb in a few minutes and edit if this solves anything. EDIT - Same behavior.
Johnm_ColaSC, you pose a great question. I’m posting some screen shots from both TVGuide.com and KXXV’s website for programming information. Neither source lists any episode # for any airing of Texas Report on any day, weekend or weekday - so the question is who or what program is assigning the episode #'s of 8-12, 8-13, 8-14, etc? If it’s PLEX, then it is skipping these airings. I had thought that this is what the recording feature of PLEX is for “New and Repeat Airings”, is it not?
Pretty sure it is Gracenote adding the episode information. I sometimes see other TV Shows that have similar Episode data that is actually inaccurate. Perhaps add the issue with these recordings to the Google Docs Form Plex provided to track EPG issues:

I submitted to the website you provided. Thank you for taking the time to bring that to my attention. I would love to hear some thoughts from someone at Plex, though.

New and Repeat is used to determine what episodes to record. If a show is setup for New Episodes only then any show marked in the EPG as NEW will be recorded. If New and Repeat is selected then any episode not currently in your library will be recorded. So in the case of your Texas Report show with Episode 8-15 for today the first airing would record. Once it is recorded it now exists in your library so the subsequent airing would not be recorded.
Without knowing more details such as your OS which from the last screenshots appears to be Windows. One suggestion if you are using Windows would be to look at mcebuddy to do Post Processing on recordings for you. When mcebuddy runs it can be used to do custom file renaming of the episode so: Your Texas Report 8-13 could be changed to something like Texas Report 08-13 6:00PM, and Texas Report 08-13 10:00PM. When renamed appending recording time to show title I would think Plex would then record the later episode.
johnm_ColaSC, Sorry it took so long to get back. My original post above referenced Plex Server for Win 10. Sorry if you missed it.
I did what you asked and renamed the 6:00 Sat (8/19) show to 8/18. Tonight’s 10:00 PM show immediately showed up in the series episode list as being on, but it would not add it to be recorded on the program recording schedule. Even selecting the manual episode record button in this episode list just brought up the series recording screen again. It simply will not record the 10:00 PM showing. I suspect you are correct that Gracenote (or whichever service) was not aware of the 10:00 PM weekend showings of this news station and therefore did not account for it in their naming scheme.
As stated, I submitted to the Google Docs form that you provided to me earlier, so hopefully it’s a bug that will get worked out. Very annoying, but not life-critical.
