Channel number/Name: 5.1 KINGHD & 9.1 KCTS-HD (and I am sure others)
I haven’t been watching TV in a while, but was counting on Plex DVR recording all of the shows over the last few months.
I do have a paid lifetime subscription.
However, I have found today that it has been recording 0-sized TS files in recorded TV folder since June or so.
I went to the console and tried just recording something while watching as well. I don’t see any specific errors show up in the console… But the record icon / button will not turn red, and ony a 0-sized TS file is created.
I am not sure where to look for logs outside of the console.
I hadn’t changed anything. This has been working for years and only seemed to fail / stop this year.
I believe I have found some relevant logs that might help (attached above), and redacted some public ip / port information that I don’t think is relevant. I am not sure why this has started this summer however. It should be able to just save the ts stream from hdhomerun.
Per directions, logs are debug level only.
I removed everything except the parts when the system started to record (from this past Saturday) and then ended up failing.
Extracting some select failures here so others who might search may find in the future too.
Thanks to you, or anyone else for any help on this. It’s much appreciated.

Just a shot in the dark: is your .grab folder full? Also, what are the permissions for your TV folder or wherever you put your TV Show files.
Your .grab folder is a hidden folder in your TV folder. On linux you can CTRL+H to show it and any other hidden files. I don’t use Synology and will have to look up what it is exactly.
I would also check and see if you have run out of space wherever your transcoding folder is. Some people put it in RAM and you might have run out of space in RAM if that is the case.
I updated the folder quota again to a value much larger to avoid this issue.
I haven’t done extensive testing, but simply pressing record while watching something worked… which didn’t before. So I would guess this is exactly the problem.

BTW, in the future, it appears that the .grab folder is in the “Recorded TV” folder itself at the root from what I saw just now. That just seems like the default. Unrelated, but the “setup” process for plex users is just download the app package file here: https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/ … and then install the app package on the NAS. (which is great! – but also means not a lot of information I had on debugging or details initially.
I would wonder if plex somehow has a way to warn / show that the primary recording space is out of room close to running out of room. I just went back and checked the libraries and library settings to see if I missed that somewhere, but didn’t see it.
I feel silly that this was this issue, but glad it was this easy, and again really appreciate your generous support.
No problem! Glad you were able to get it working again!
Don’t worry about feeling silly. Things always happen and it seems like the vast majority of times it is a simple fix. The issues that used to bite me all the time until I finally remembered were always permissions related. Somehow I would change permissions to all files in a folder instead of a specific one and then it would take me forever to figure it out
