Video recordings are failing. File (.ts) created with 0 size

This was working properly last season (earlier in the year) but now when it tries to record a TV show it creates a .ts file of 0 length.

Linux: Ubuntu server

These are the parts that seem to be the issue. The ā€œInvalid frame dimensions 0x0ā€. What could cause this?

ERROR - [Transcoder] [mpeg2video @ 0x1b525c0] Invalid frame dimensions 0x0.
ERROR - DVR:Grabber: Failed to inspect file: Could not parse /media/hdd/plex/Reed/TV/.grab/4633b6972249ea79cf1dfbcc69ac454cd71c80ed/Leave It to Beaver (1957) - S01E39 - Cat out of the Bag.ts (error=-1094995529): Invalid data found when processing input

Things I’ve tried:

  1. Power Cycling the HDHomeRun device.
  2. Disabling the UFW (firewall).
  3. Uninstall/Reinstall Plex

I’m really at a loss here on even what to try next.

Tagging @ChuckPa for Linux help.

First step in diagnosis is to open the HDHR directly in your web browser

  1. Using their app on one of your devices, tune a channel
  2. Now, in the browser, look at the reported parameters of the signal quality, strength, and symbols
  3. These should all be in the 90% and above range except Symbols. Symbols should be nearly 100% based on when I had cable service here (I am satellite now)

Here’s what I see when I use HDHomeRun’s tool @ChuckPa
image

I don’t think it’s a reception problem.

Plex Server Version 1.17.0.1841
Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS
HDHomeRun: HDHR4-2US (Firmware 20190621)

Thanks. That is solid and FAR better than what I had when I had cable service. And that, unfortunately, is the limit of what I can help with.

I can’t even attempt to replicate what you’re seeing or spin up a DVR tuner.

What’s my next step?

Also, here’s the logs when I try to play live through Plex:

I’ve tried:

  1. Clean install. Remove everything and then minimally configure Device/DVR. Did not fix.
  2. Try to install newest version 1.18.0.1913: Did not fix.
  3. Try to install old version 1.13.0.5023: DVR doesn’t configure anymore in this version. Won’t allow zip code for guide download.

I’m running out of things to try. Who is knowledgeable in this area?

Sounds like ffmpeg is angry about the source for some reason.

Are you able to watch any channels via Plex?

Have you tried updating to the latest beta?

I started backing out changes to the server in the last year and that included OpenVPN and UFW settings.

Once I had done these two things:

  1. systemctl stop openvpn
  2. ufw disable

It started working again. I then tried to figure out which had been preventing it from working so I enabled each one at a time. Upon enabling both Plex was still working.

So it may have had something to do with OpenVPN or UFW, but I’m unable to say for certain because I can’t get it to not work now.

Everything is now working how it should be.

Very odd!

I’m glad it’s working. I suppose if it fails in the future, you at least know where to maybe start looking again.
