Reducing loud sounds in real-time / during playback

Can Plex detect loud noises and reduce them automatically in real-time (during playback)?

I watch a show via my PMS that contains an audience; when they clap & cheer, it’s A. super annoying, and B. quite loud. The dialog can sometimes be soft. Adjusting the overall volume increases or decreases everything so I will always have an issue, either loud clapping or dialog I can’t hear.

Does Plex have a way to reduce sounds during playback? Or is there any other way to do this (outside of Plex)? One super manual way to do this would be to load the file into something like Adobe Premiere Pro and adjust the volume for each clapping sequence but that’s not sustainable or scalable. What about via the playback device’s software (e.g. Chromecast or Apple TV) or through my receiver?

These days with AI, this should be fairly easy to do (in my opinion).

Seeking any suggestions on how to achieve this, thanks!

(This may be a Plex feature request, in which case we can move this to the appropriate category.)

Look in the menu of your playback devices (not in the settings of the Plex app) or your soundbar/AVR for a feature called similarly to “limiter”, “compressor”, or “night mode”.
I’ve seen similar features in TV’s as well.

It’s also possible to apply this compression to the video file, using a script and ffmpeg. [How To] Downmix Surround Sound To AAC Stereo Properly (using FFmpeg Batch Converter)
TV stations do this pretty much by default. It’s particularly recommended when mixing down surround sound to stereo, because otherwise you often end up with a very soft volume.

If you use the Plex HTPC app on a computer, you can try the effect “live”: An on-demand audio dynamics compressor for PMP and Plex HTPC
