"Refreshing" movie metadata not updating IMDb ratings

Server Version#: 1.24.2.4973
Player Version#: 1.34.1.2590-74ea7099 (Windows 10)

For the last 10 days or so refreshing metadata for movies is not updating IMDb ratings. Other info seems to be updating, but not the IMDb ratings. Adding new movies sometimes pulls down the IMDB ratings initially, but other times will pull Rotten Tomatoes (RT), TMDB or nothing. Refreshing metadata where RT or TMDB was pulled does update, but doesn’t change to IMDb, even though that’s the rating agent I’ve selected. Again, all worked well until about 10 days ago.

Could really use some help as I don’t know how to fix the problem and “playing” around with Agent settings has probably made things worse.

Really surprised I received no replies/comments!

As an update, I tried manually refreshing a bunch of movies today. If not clear in my original post, I have my agent settings set to pull IMDb ratings. In many cases, the IMDb rating did indeed update for the first time in a couple of weeks. In a few cases. a Rotten Tomato or TMDB rating that was originally pulled in was updated to the current IMDb rating.

With that said, there are still quite a few of my recent movies that still have no rating or Rotten Tomato ratings, even though they have IMDb ratings when I check IMDb online. So, the problem is not completely gone. However, this leads me to believe though that this is a Plex “company” issue and not a local my server issue. Originally, when I posted my message, I assumed it was my server installation, since I did not see any other similar comments anywhere. Because there is no real Plex company support, there is no way for me to check if they are having problems and to know this for sure. This is problematic because it had me doing things on my system, which probably weren’t necessary or may have even caused other problems (e.g. changing settings, etc.).

So, can anyone else confirm they are or were having problems with IMDb ratings not being updated when they “manually refreshed metadata” or, preferably, can someone from Plex confirm they had or are having issues with the IMDb ratings? For now, I will not do anything more locally, but just wait a few weeks to see if it continues to “fix itself”.

Hi @JcrK-Nas

We reported this to IMDb last week and they were able to find an issue and it has been rectified. Things should start updating correctly when refreshing the metadata now. Please let me know if you’re still seeing issues in the next day or two.

Thank you for the response. In the last few days, there has been some clear improvement, with most movies appearing to now update. Still a couple that don’t, but I’ll just assume IMDb (and you) are working through the problem. Again, thank you.

Thanks! If you notice some movies are not updating please let me know which ones they are so we can investigate.

There’s always a bit of a lag, which I believe is normal. So, a direct comparison to IMDb at a given point of time doesn’t necessarily work. One movie that I know has not updated at all and the rating has been wrong for at least several days is “Language Arts (2020)”. It’s at 8.7 in my Plex since upload, but it’s been at 7.1 on the IMDb site for a few days. Again, there were a couple of others, but I don’t remember which. However, I’ll continue to keep an eye open.

Thanks, I’ll monitor that title and if it hasn’t been updated by tomorrow then I will investigate further.

Looks like it’s updating fine now. It’s at 7.1 now and should update regularly now to match the IMDb data.

Yes…I saw that. Since it’s my “test subject”, I check it periodically and noticed the update. I do a bit of a metadata refresh on the weekend for the last couple months of movies, so we’ll see how it looks after that. However, generally, it seems to now be working.

Again, I really appreciate the support!

There still seems to be a recurring problem. Sometimes movies update or some of the metadata updates, but there are clearly a number, which are either not working from IMDb update standpoint or are days behind the IMDb ratings (one example, would be The Starling - IMDb rating for days, but Rotten Tomatoes in Plex).

Now that I know this is not something on my side, I’m less concerned and it very well may just be behind and fix itself in a few more days. However, I thought I would reach out, since Plex is a great product, but only stays great if the folks there have our thoughts and concerns.

Thanks for the report. We’ve been tracking an issue for a while where we end up with duplicates on our system and this is one of those. It has been reported.

There are a number of others that don’t seem to be updating. The Starling is just an obvious one. I don’t mean to pester you, but thought you guys might want to know. As always, thanks for the response and support.

You’re not pestering me, this feedback is always very welcome!

The Starling is still not updating. It still shows the Rotten Tomatoes ratings. I don’t not about others as there’s nothing else obvious that jumps out at me other than that one.

Hello,

I have similar problems with IMDB (and i think also other ones).

I set my parameters to Plex as agent and scanner.
The classification to IMDB.
Language to French (software and country of certification)

All the content classification don’t update to french one.
Ex: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (original) is in french “Tous Public” in IMDB. and classify as U in Plex.
