@ZeroQI said: @saitoh183 The issue was well described but sadly lost time looking at latest code for no reason…
scanner issue posted in agent thread.
scanner read-me (link in signature) show the first step for Trouble - Update the scanner to the latest, and i wrote a power-shell script to update easily with 2 mouse clics…
The 15th of march there was this update “Fix infinite loop issue when using anidb2 on Windows”.
you use windows and anidb2…
banging my head on the desk
I thought I was using the latest version…i will check again. Also didn’t know there was a scanner thread
@saitoh183 No problem, you documented it well at least…
I know nobody read the read-me, as i documented troubleshooting steps and even where to post, here is the extract from the scanner readme (link in signature) troubleshooting section:
And post in:
Support thread for Scanner (you are unsure): https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/113967/absolute-series-scanner-for-anime-mainly/#latest

up…bookmarked it …i always saw the link in the readme but thought it led back to here …lol
@saitoh183 : thanks for the honesty… i cannot do more there… Am trying to keep things separate too, as the scanner changes much less. still coding hama re-writing, we are nearly there with better missing eps logs (modifying and deleting old entries) and will work with unsupported appstore (current version does but needs folders creation, however next one create them on the spot)
This is an ignorant question. But has the issue with OVAs and anime episodes been resolved with this scanner? I think I have hama installed but it doesn’t seem any better than the move data base of TVTB. I’m probably doing something wrong. Could someone link me or briefly explain the best way to assign meta data for anime in 2017?
This is the agent thread. Please read the scanner readme, link in my signature… the scanner allow to detect movies as series to have them all in a single library but the movie filename must match the foldername… Please post scanner questions in scanner thread, link in the readme…

Thanks. Sorry about the confusion. I’ll take a look.
Edit: I actually went through that readme and was confused. I’ll look for the scanner thread.
@rightcode i try to edit the read-me after each question but notice many people not reading it, not including logs, etc… even though it includes troubleshooting steps and list of files to attach so i will assume it wasn’t read if no logs attached.
Can’t see what issue you refer to, have no example or anything to reproduce and don’t even know what you mean.
Movie files in Series libraries (since this is a Series Scanner) are supported if:
Files are in a folder with the same name or with a single file inside it
Files are numbered (01|ep 01|s01e01)
Filename contain " - Complete Movie"

I’ll have to go back through the readme. It’s just a little complicated to read. But I am also new to this so please forgive me. I’ll try reinstalling your software and revisit if I can’t get it to work.
I’ll also note that while your documentation is detailed, some simple picture examples would help me a lot to visualize how things should be structured. Maybe there are pictures and I missed them. Anyway, thanks for putting this greast tool together. Hopefully I can get it to work soon.
I tried different naming but can’t get the OVA to populate in my Anime Show’s folder.
This is how my Plex settings look for agents:
And this is what comes up when I try to fix match for Elfen Lied and I pick Hama agent:
.
Ultimately it looks like meta data still comes from TVDB, but I am not sure as this is kind of confusing to me. When I use the Hama agent it does not pull any art or the metadata is vague. I am sure I am doing something wrong. I apologize if this mixing between both threads, but I’d love to combine my anime movie / tv library into one with this tool. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
For me the first phrase of the scanner read-me tells explicitly which component is at fault here:
#Absolute Series Scanner
The Plex Scanner will make the video files showing in Plex, if not showing in Plex, it is a scanner issue.
The readme states in Install section
https://github.com/ZeroQI/Absolute-Series-Scanner/blob/master/Scanners/Series/Absolute%20Series%20Scanner.py Into:
[...]/Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Scanners/Series/Absolute Series Scanner.py
You have an additional folder there. You cannot see the scanner listed in Plex Series library at creation time in the location you put it at: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Scanners\Series~~Absolute-Series-Scanner-master~~Absolute-Series-Scanner.py
if the file isn’t showing at right ep number or at all in plex it’s a scanner issue.
“Ultimately it looks like meta data still comes from TVDB” ??? is says ANIDB-1544 so definitely AniDB [anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=1544]
I don’t think you grasped the concept of specials/season 0 episodes used by Plex and you didn’t point out you are not using my scanner and it doesn’t appear when creating the series library
Read-me extract 1
Specials go in "Specials" or "Season 0" folders.
Single seasons series will follow anidb specials numbering (unless specific tvdb guid forced).
Multiple seasons series will follow tvdb specials numbering
You can use Anidb numbering for specials (OP1a, NCOP, etc...) or explicitely label them as follow (s00e101, etc...).
Include all files not recognised as Season 0 episode 501+
Read-me extract 2
Let's use One piece special "Heart of Gold":
TVDB seasons
- http://thetvdb.com/?tab=episode&seriesid=81797&seasonid=31892&id=5687281&lid=7
- "One piece/One Piece s00e35 Heart of Gold [sub fr].ext"
Anidb (single) season
- http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=69
- "One piece/One Piece s00e23 Heart of Gold [sub fr].ext"
- "One piece/One Piece S23 Heart of Gold [sub fr].ext"
Possible naming for Special ep 1:
…\Elfen Lied\Elven Lied s00e01 In the Passing Rain Regenschauer.mkv
…\Elfen Lied\Specials\Elven Lied 01.mkv
…\Elfen Lied\S1.mkv*
…\Elfen Lied\Elven Lied S01 OAV.mkv*
…\Elfen Lied\SP01 In the Passing Rain Regenschauer.mkv*
*: specific to my scanner
Any amendment to the read-me is welcome, but i will point out when not followed every time.
I appreciate your guidance. I moved everything out of the extra folder for the ASS scanner, and now it appears to be working after I adjusted the folder structure to Elfen Lied\Elfen Lied S01 OVA.mkv for the OVA. But now it populates under a Specials folder in Plex and it makes it looks like there are two seasons? Is there a way to rename specials to OVAs? Or just to have the OVAs populate under their respective show / season without an additional folder in the Plex interface? If not this is fine and is much better than having two separate libraries for anime shows and OVAs. I just don’t want someone to skim over the specials folder, not realizing there are OVAs in there. When I think of specials I think of behind the scenes, extras, whatever. Maybe my idea of specials is wrong and I should correct it.
Also, it seems the scanner and Hama agent worked for my other animes to pull cover art, synopsis, etc., but for Elfen Lied there is no poster art for the season folders. However, the individual episodes have art covers. Edit: it appears multiple posters are missing for some of my other shows.
In this case do I have to manually find a poster if the agent does not pull one? I said Hama looks like it pulls from TVTB because this is how the agent shows in Plex for me:
I checked off the AniDB poster fetch just now but by default it had only TVTB selected. Before I used Hama I had the poster populate just fine for Elfen Lied. Do I have to do anything special with Hama other than to put it where all my other plex bundles are? C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Plug-ins\Hama.bundle
Lastly, when I installed ASS it came with these other extra contents in the zip file. Do I need them or can I delete?
Thanks for all your help. Sorry to slightly derail your topic, and also sorry for any of my stupid questions. Again, your read me is thorough, but I kind of get lost in all of the thoroughness. Probably my flaw, not yours.
@rightcode Thanks for the honest reply. you can delete all but the scanner file and can keep the powershell update script if under windows (right clic>open with power shell and it updates)…
Specials are as defined in anidb and tvdb, you need to match anidb numbering (or tvdb if using seasons>1 or tvdbid forced).
I have just installed HAMA, and while it is mostly working well, I have hit a few issues (I am organizing series on disk by tvdb; with seasons):
The first time I installed, switched the agents over, and re-scanned, it just loaded tvdb data back in for the entire library. I had to delete the library and re-create it before HAMA appeared to run at all.
There are a handful of series that are loading no metadata at all. I’ll try and dig out the logs later, but all of these series were found correctly under the default Plex agent.
Any series which has multiple seasons (ignoring specials) is only using tvdb metadata, with no anidb metadata. This is rather annoying. I would expect it to load the metadata of the earliest season.
Is there any way to force tvdb genres? Anidb tags are just total garbage, with series receiving totally non sensical genres like “Japan”, “aisa”, “now”, etc. Increasing the threshold reduces the quantity of tags, but not the quality.

I had a similar issue with HAMA it seems. TVDB was loading my anime just fine. But I don’t believe it allowed for the structure of special / OVAs in the same directory as seasons / shows? Or is that the ASS scanner that allows that? Either way, prior to switching, TVDB loaded all my metadata just fine, with the exception of some OVAs. For example, I couldn’t get Elfen Lied In the Passing Rain to load metadata either in a movies directory or a show directory. But now it populates just fine. I wish organizing anime wasn’t so difficult.
Edit: I’ve noticed that some posters are not displaying on my mobile app for anime shows. However, if I go to Plex.tv and view in my mobile browser those same lacking posters populate. That is strange. Why would it work on the browser but not in the mobile app.

You’re welcome. I appreciate you building this tool for all of us. An update: I checked off all the options basically under HAMA when I edit my Anime folder, and now most of my art is displaying now), even on mobile (for attack on Titan I had a mislabeling of the episodes - this if fixed n. However, Elfen Lied still does not display posters and Yu Yu Hakusho is not displaying a banner. Is there a way for it to check other agents if AniDB does not work? I think this is a feature but I am wondering if it’s working for me.
Edit: I manually (wish this was automatic) changed the agent for Elfen Lied and Yu Yu Hakusho to TVDB and the poster / banners populated. It also looks that I can leave OVAs in the anime TV shows while not using HAMA, which is a good thing. Maybe the scanner picks up on this and that has nothing to do with the agent.
By matching anidb numbering, what exactly do you mean? How they number each series? Can you show an example?
In the Plex interface, I see how to not display seasons, but that removes seasons for even seasons. I want actual seasons to have a season folder. However, I would like OVAs to either have a folder called OVAs, or to not be in a folder at all. All of this while actual seasons still get their own folder.
Edit: I believe I can confirm that AniDB does not pull posters? Correct me if I am wrong. I believe you mentioned this above and said you’re fixing it? Would be cool to pull what it can from AniDB, then pull what’s missing from secondary and tertiary agents. @ZeroQI
@rightcode the scanner adds the file choosing the season and ep number so it shows in plex.
the agent put metadata on what is then showing in Plex
Anidb have low quality mismatched sized posters. i put it the lowest priority by default
In anidb there is 10 specials for elven lied: http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=1544
If the OAV you have is listed as ‘S2’ label it ‘S2’ or ‘s00e02’
You are lucky for that series as OAV are separate entries altogether normally so would need another serie folder
Folders called OVAs in plex won’t happen in tv library. extras/specials and seasons
