My roommate and I both host our own servers. No firewall issues; I worked in IT for 20 years, I know what I’m doing. And it’s always worked perfectly, I use it daily. I used it yesterday (the previous system), and all was well. But no, my network is absolutely not the issue.
Weird, do either of you have Plex Pass? I know PlexAmp was exclusive to plex pass before, and now remote streaming is also restricted to plex pass accounts. So if your connection is not on the same network and it’s connecting as remote that could be your issue. Or if your server is not local and running through back blaze or hetzner or something Ive heard people have a lot of issues with that. Either way hope you get it sorted man its sucks when things change AND stop working.
If you give PlexAmp a real shot I believe you will find the benefits for music are definitely better than the main plex app. Once you get connected that is haha.
A couple of things: If I have to pay to access my own music away from home, then I’m DEFINITELY switching to Jellyfin/Kodi and taking all my friends with me, because no one is going to pay $25/mo. for that when it can be done for free on other platforms. I’m disabled and on a fixed income, I cannot afford that. Our servers are local, though, and everything is configured beyond perfectly (my roommate also works in IT and is better at networking/network security than even myself).
Never mind the ultimatum-- I’m absolutely leaving, and so far, all of my friends are on board to do the same. You blew it, Plex. You just lost a bunch of people who have been faithfully using your software for 15 or more years, and I’ve always sung your praises and recommended to anyone who might be interested in this kind of functionality. But if I have to pay to access my own stuff (beyond the initial fee for mobile), I’m done. This is a result of greed and really poor engineering and design, pure and simple, and I won’t be a part of it.
Where have you got that figure from?
That’s what it’s always been.
What exactly are you talking about? Because it’s not Plex.
Agreed…I don’t like any of the Plex recent changes either, but it certainly doesn’t cost $25/month.
Ok, perhaps they recently changed it, but for YEARS and YEARS, the Plex Pass was $25/mo. Regardless, as mentioned before, I’m on a fixed income and a tight budget, and cannot afford anything new, period, full stop. Plex will not get another red cent out of me, especially with the horrific UI, splitting music and photos off, and FORCING me to use them instead of the old system, which was perfectly great as it was. I’m not paying for a crap UI and having to use multiple apps to access ONE server. Nope. Done.
No it hasn’t. It has never been that price, ever.
Yeah, that’s why there were never any issues raised by anyone up until the last couple of weeks. The previous app was perfect and everything worked exactly as expected…
You don’t have to. Only if you want to stream remotely. And even that is simple enough for anyone with any sort of IT skill to get round. All it takes is a VPN and it’s back to local streaming.
Can anyone point me to an explanation for how to roll back to the previous Plex app on an Android Samsung S24 and Galaxy Tab S7? The new app won’t play any media on mobile data or different wi-fi. It only plays on my own wi-fi network. I have a life time plex pass.
Have you tried restarting the server?
That was actually the first thing I did
Here you go:
Thank you so much! I will do this tomorrow. Cheers
My 5 cents to the topic: the new app is crap!
It is the crapiest update EVER (since 2014) !!!
Not only you are now obliged to use several apps (there is some of us like one for all & some of us even DON’T like Plexamp), but there is A LOT of what I will call “advertising”.
I ONLY want MY STUFF, nothing else!
You don’t need Plex Pass to remotely stream music.
I couldn’t wait to reinstall the old app so I did what you linked to and its perfect! I’m back to remote streaming and I got my menus back. I’ve already blocked future updates for the app so Is back to the future for me. Thank you!
Glad it worked for ya!
Ugh, Nobody has been paying attention, apparently for at least the decade.
