This new android app is awful, where can I download the previous version?

The library is laggy and unresponsive leading to multiple back presses that close the app.
I can’t remove all of the trash off of my home page.
Content takes 30-90 seconds to load if it ever does manage to play something.
Casting doesn’t work at all which is great as what it’s been like a week since it was last broken..?

It’s clearly half baked and needed many months more of development time before ever being pushed to any platform, these are just the issues I found in the first 15 minutes.

Where can I find the previous apk? This new app clearly isn’t going to work as intended for a decent period of time and there’s an absolutely zero chance it’s going to be rolled back.

What the hell happened with this new Android app? Its legit garbage crashes all the time, looks like a mess and runs like it was thrown together in a weekend. Did anyone even try using it before you pushed it out? Lol can’t even edit the home screen? I’m so pissed I dropped cash on a lifetime Plex Pass, and now it feels like you’re just ignoring us. Fix this crap, please. We’re begging you.

Just got the new “experience”. This feels like another Sonos-level disaster if they just ignore users’ concerns.

Yeah seriously making me regret paying for plex pass with this massive downgrade in functionality.

Thankfully somebody linked to a post that links to the previous apk in a different thread. Most users will want the arm64v8a version and don’t forget to uninstall the ““new experience”” from your device first. You’ll have to log in and setup your home page again, but hey at least it works!

Also, don’t forget to modify the app setting in the Play Store to prevent auto updating.

Grab the old APK (Plex: Stream Movies & TV 10.26.0.2578 APK Download by Plex, Inc. - APKMirror).

Then uninstall the app from your phone, install the APK file you downloaded using APKMirror Installer and then make sure you go into the Google play app and disable automatic updates for the Plex app.

To Downgrade

  3. Download the previous APK 10.26.0.2578-6cc7ea1a file for your version below arm64v8a is the most common for modern Android devices - Also works for Nvidia Shield
  1. Click the APK and follow the prompts to install it natively.
  2. Open the Play Store
  3. Go to Manage Apps & Devices
  4. Click the Manage tab
  5. Find Plex and click on it
  6. Click the three dots to the top right corner
  7. Uncheck Enable Auto Update

To enable Developer Options

  1. Go to “Settings”

Note for updates
You will need to ensure you do not click the Update All button in the Play Store when updating applications until the new Plex app has been ironed out. If you do, it will force an update to the latest Plex application version and you’ll have to do this process all over again. Make sure to manually click the update button on each application and skip over Plex.

Awesome. Even better, thanks!

Adding thanks for the direct link to the apk also.

New app looks to be missing half it’s features. Can’t even re-arrange the home screen or trigger a library scan?

Thank you so much for this detailed information.

I did not ask for and do not want it. Tried to use it last night and it sucked. Could not fast forward in a show by double tapping anymore. Could not find the setting to stream at a lower rate. I have to choose what rate to stream at instead of setting it to automatically stream at a lower rate when connection isn’t strong enough.

I wanted to like the new app. I avoided reading other posts complaining about it, and I gave it a few days before resorting to this. My tablet experience with plex up to this point was never 100% satisfying. I run on an older tablet, but the worst problem I had was a crash every week or so. Not really a big deal. This app on the other hand, is way WAY worse.

  • Constant “Something is not right” messages, forcing me to force-close the app.
  • Any interruption in connectivity at all, forces me to force-close the app. The old app would just try again a few times, at worst I would have to restart the playback of the content.
  • Not a SINGLE media file will play all the way through. The player just randomly restarts playback where you started playback from. For example, if I resume playback at 5 minutes in, the app will randomly rewind from 25 minutes in to 5 minutes in, never progressing past the 25 minute mark. This is random but very predictable. This even happens on downloaded content!
  • Navigation between pages TAKES FOREVER. The load time is WAY to high. I should not have to wait 10 seconds to go back a screen!

Update:

  • I just noticed that the long press menu option on the home screen (which I most commonly use to jump to an episodes show page) no longer works. The menu opens briefly with a spinner, then closes on its own.

Up until now I’ve thoroughly enjoyed using Plex. But now…

This new Ui is absolutely horrible. Not intuitive at all. Performance sucks as it crashes/freezes constantly.

The Library index as a horizontal scroll bar sucks. And why the heck is it the middle of the home screen underneath Continue Watching? At least put it at the top.

The Plex Team needs to do right by their users and roll back the app to the previous Ui until they can “fix” this new version. As others have already mentioned it’s mind boggling this got through any sort of review or beta testing and they still thought this was an acceptable product.

Agreed, the new app is beyond awful. Slow, nonintuitive, playlists completely unusable.
The one thing I used the mobile app for was creating a playlist to play on my TV and it no longer works at all.
This needs to be rolled back.

WOW, WTF and who the F did this app update, it’s complete TRASH. FIRE the team or person immediately. (That’s how bad this is), been using plex since before the mobile app, and this is by far the worst recent f ups. When people mass downgrade someone needs fired, and it’s not the devs they likely did what they were told to do, whoever’s nasty wireframe/mockup resulted in this needs canned.

I said the same thing and was warned that I would be banned. Be careful, this is a dictatorship under martial law now. If you disrespect the product, they just humiliate you and gaslight you, telling you that you are using the product incorrectly. Everyone is saying this is a huge disgrace.
