I’m thrilled that Plex now supports playback speed control!
I noticed in the guidance page that changing the speed from “normal” resets when playback stops.
Could this be changed so the speed setting is remembered unless the app is restarted?
In what apps are you experiencing this?
I’ve been testing the new playback speed options on my Apple TV / tvOS client and it appears the last selected speed remains active as I keep watching videos (e.g. binging episodes of a show).
But you’re watching all those episodes in one session, right (allowing autoplay to continue through a season or playlist)? I think Phoenix501 wants to be able to make a change just stay permanent even if they change to watching something else, or even go away and come back later. Just like you don’t have to tell the app to use Zoom or Stretch mode for the screen every time you use it, it just maintains the setting from before.

You’re right… the preference currently only persists with the actual watching session.

Clearly they could refine it a bit for those that enjoy this feature, I hope they return to it and make some enhancements.
That’s exactly what I mean.
I’m a time-poor parent of young kids and I watch everything at 1.25x so I can actually get through shows and movies. Your brain adjusts to the speed.
Jellyfin will remember the playback speed setting unless the app is restarted which I’m hoping Plex is able do also.

Also, I don’t know if it’s worth making a new feature request for this, but the playback speed setting really needs to be on the normal bar and not several clicks deep buried in playback settings. If your goal is to replay a touchdown at 0.5x speed, or quickly watch an intro or recap at 2x speed, the current system is extremely unwieldy. Half the benefit of playback speed is being able to step up and down through speeds as you go along.
Amazing feature though, I’m just happy to have it at all.

I’ve upvoted your feature request to have the playback speed option on the main playback screen overlay.
This is actually more important than the feature request I posted tbh because as long as it’s easy to toggle, having the speed reset each time a show is stopped is less of a big deal.

Its a huge deal, Every time using smart tv app the speed defaults to normal when watching playlist, collection or even a tv show. I clearly do not want to have to stop the show, go and change the settings every time. If the show is 22 mins long and I set it to 2x, that means every 10 mins I have to waste time finding the remote and stopping playback to change the speed.
Clearly there needs to be a default speed setting for the account holder or the option to do that. I never watch anything at less than 1.75 anymore and if I need on the rare occasions change it slower I do not mind having to do that.
Having to change the playback speed every time is making me go back to using the web client rather than my tv. I do not need to adjust the playback on the webclient as I just have an add on that automatically sets the speed to 1.7x and I can speed it up or lower it with ease.
Lets hope this new “skin” solves some of these problems or I am just going to have to flood the forums about this feature until I get what I want and I am sure there are a lot more people out there.
Understand where you’re coming from, I would rather have both these features available as well. What I meant was if I can only choose one update (you have to pick your battles with the Plex dev team), I would pick the speed option being put on the main screen overlay personally.
I definitely support a change to make adjusting the playback speed more accessible, so it’s not buried in a sub-menu.
My ideal request for playback speed changes would be to add an account/client wide setting for default playback speed, akin the the selection of default audio/sub track behavior.
Additionally, keyboard shortcuts for toggling playback speed up/down in Windows/Web clients would also be very useful (but less necessary if either of the previously mentioned changes were done).
Very thankful that the playback speed adjustment was released, as I watch nearly everything at 1.5-2x speeds. Being able to avoid changing the playback speed for each session would be a most welcome and appreciated change.
