So I’m a little bit confused and am looking for some advice or experience from others that may have had a similar issue as I do.
I have ATT fiber via a BGW320-500 router, but need to use an Orbi mesh network to provide internet to my plex pc due to the main connection point being in a different room from the plex pc. The Orbi router is hardwired into the BGW320-500 and the plex pc is hardwired into one of the Orbi satellites. I’ve been able to get remote access to connect and work by manually specifying a public port (32400), but it doesn’t seem to stay connected consistently and remote access users have had drops in quality and difficulty connecting.
From research it would appear this is a double NAT situation and the fix involves setting the BGW320-500 router to do IP Passthrough and have the Orbi set to router mode. I’ve set it up so that this is the case on both devices, with the passthrough fixed MAC address pointing to the Orbi’s main router (not the satellite that the plex pc is hardwired into). These were the general directions I was following to set up the BGW320-500 for IP Passthrough.
Unfortunately I am still running into the same issue. I’m wondering if the passthrough fixed MAC address needs to point to the Orbi satellite that the plex pc is hardwired into rather than the Orbi router.
Has anyone used a setup like the one I described and had their remote access work?
*EDIT for future readers who may come across this thread. The fix had worked, I was just perhaps a bit impatient with it. Everything seems to be working. The alternative is to have the BGW320-500 set up to be the router but turn off the wifi on it and then set the Orbi to AP mode and utilize the Orbi wifi as needed.
