Remote Access Connects the Disconnects

Server Version#:1.18.2.2058-e67a4e892
Player Version#:

Remote disconnecting seconds after saying its connected.

IT guy here, networking engineer, yadda yadda.

This was working. Then stopped. No changes to my network, windows or other.

You click on connect, then within seconds it disconnects.

TONS OF PEOPLE REPORTING THE SAME ISSUE.

NO FIXES WORK.

HAVE REINSTALLED COMPLETELY.

If there was a “FIX” to try. It has been tried.

What the hell is going on with plex?

do you have a manual port forward setup?

Yes.

I have swapped ports… manually and automatic;

Have Disabled UPNP and enabled.

Disabled NAT

Have hooked up machine straight to internet.

Disabled all firewalls.

This is a server with many other remote applications working on it.

Every other port and remote program working fine.

Open plex, click on enable remote access, shows connected, 3 seconds later, it fails and shows disconnected.

disable UPNP.
stick to one port instead of swapping around.
restart plex after you pick a port and have it setup properly.
check your port on canyouseeme.org for success.

When I captured network traffic, it seemed the three seconds was the amount of time it allowed to see packets from the Plex servers to verify that inbound traffic was being allowed. No packets in 3 seconds, then it would report not accessible. The 3 seconds of “connect” causes confusion. Similarly, sometimes remote access is actually working though what I’m seeing is no traffic is coming from these hosted Plex validation servers.

What happens when you go to canyouseeme.org and put in the external/internet facing port that you have configured? (Note - this external port must be the same in both the router’s port forwarding rule and in the Plex manually specified public port.)

Internal routing works via 32400 port.

External nothing. Can you see me sees all my open ports EXCEPT the plex port.

Swap ports, restart plex, turn off manual port, restart plex, all the same issues.

I can not surf to my external IP address with the port EX 25339 (firewall rule made)

Again, internal port works fine 32400

NOTHING has changed in firewall or rules, hardware software or other, other than latest plex update.

until you or canyouseeme.org shows whatever port you are using as open with success remote access will not work.

If you can get to 32400 internally no matter what is your port forward/firewall rule is setup properly you would see success.

if you want to post your port forward/firewall config related to the Plex port we can try and see what might be going on.

Thank you for your help gentlemen.

I had to completely delete everything plex related on my system and start fresh.

A simple uninstall did not work.

BEFORE YOU UNINSTALL, SIGN OUT. THEN REBOOT.

DO a search for all left over plex directories and REG entries and delete.

Reinstall.

Enable the remote desktop and WAIT. It might disconnect, the first time after successfull connect.

I think closed and reopened plex via tool bar and it has stuck.

Thank you again gentleman for the help. I still did not see these issues until the latest update. I hope this helps someone else.

I am having the exact same issues. CONNECT for only a few seconds. Got much worse after latest update yesterday. Plex user from the very beginning. Nothing changed on my end. IT guy too.
