remote access fails 3 seconds after connection

Hi,
My Remote access feature will connect for about three seconds then it disconnects:

I am running windows 10 and Plex is up to date.
It’s not double NAT
My modem / router is a Netgear D6200
UPnP is enabled
The router firewall is off
windows firewall is off
It still fails when i remove my virus protection software
I’ve created a static local IP for my server.
I’ve manually specified a port for Plex through the router’s software and have also tried using a different external port for external and specified a path to Plex’s internal 32400 port all for the same result.

any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks, Damien.

latest versions seem to have an issue with UPnP.
Try to check Manually Specify a port, leave it on 32400.
Then do port forwarding on your router.
Worked for me.

Thanks,
have tried that and no luck - same result

Have you tried the port forward with UPnP disabled on the router?

Same issue here ports are correct. I have tried 32400 and custom ports. I have disabled all firewalls and virus protections. whats weird is i can get it to work for some time and then after adding a few more movies it always disconnects again. Its not just my server. My friends are experiencing the same thing. Any more ideas would greatly be appreciated.

Any more updates on this? Im experiencing the same issues on Windows 10 running Plex Server.

Manual configuration - Port Forward done through Ubiquiti USG Pro, port will not open regardless of what i do. (Running 2 plex servers onsite, Plex 1 (NAS) runs on 32400 fine, Plex 2 (Windows) just refuses to connect remotely.

Same issue here. No set of port forwarding, uPnP or other changes have worked so far.

Same here :frowning:
Was working fine till a couple of days ago, now totally blocked.

I’ve done a full clean install of the OS (Win 10) and created a brand new library and still have the same connection issue. Remote access used to work fine but for at least the past 4/6 weeks it has not functioned.

THis post is different from another despite containing similar information. It’s in a different context… the bot controlling this board is trying to stop me posting, So I’ve added this text…

I have the same issue, tried everything listed on various posts.
running plex on container. no issues till a few months ago.
works on retry for about 3 seconds and then fails.
Turned off all security, turned off disney circle, stopped using opendns. cleared paths as much as I can but no go. Not sure why it stopped working I’ve changed nothing on my system in past 6 months.

Commenting on this thread since it is newer and the older thread didn’t have a solution:

Been having the problems listed in several posts regarding a recent update ( 1.16.5) having limited remote access. Remote access shows fully connected for a few seconds then fails. Double NAT is not the problem, UPnP is disabled and port forwarding is set. Users are only able to connect indirectly.

Oh my god I thought I was losing my tiny little mind. Exact same thing happens to me with my Unifi USG router.

Have finally fixed this. Called my ISP and they revealed they were using CGN which effectively means you are getting a double NAT problem. They opted me out, I restarted my router, I received a new IP address and now Remote Access is working perfectly. Check with your ISP to see if this might be affecting you. If you have the same issue. Here’s more from Wiki:

This has been driving me mad for a week or two and I’ve finally resolved it thanks to a phone call to my ISP who revealed they were using Carrier Grade NAT or CGN which effectively turned my connection into a double NAT situation. I was able to opt out and when I restarted my USG router I obtained a new IP address and Plex remote access immediately lit up green.

I urge anyone having this issue to contact their ISP before suffering further hours and days of teeth gnashing, hair pulling and swearing as I did.

This explanation from Wiki:

Carrier-grade NAT usually prevents the ISP customers from using port forwarding, because the network address translation (NAT) is usually implemented by mapping ports of the NAT devices in the network to other ports in the external interface. This is done so the router will be able to map the responses to the correct device; in carrier-grade NAT networks, even though the router at the consumer end might be configured for port forwarding, the “master router” of the ISP, which runs the CGN, will block this port forwarding because the actual port would not be the port configured by the consumer

Hi, I am experiencing the same problem right now.
Previously it worked like a charm. But since I updated the software it seems to keep disabling the remote access after 30 seconds or so. But even my local network won’t pick it up anymore on my television. Strangely enough It will pick it up on my phone.

My television is connected through the same unmanaged switch as the server is.
The phone, as expected connected to the Wi-Fi which goes to the router first and then to the switch > server.
But I do not have an double NAT from my provider. I know for sure because I worked there at the technical department.
I’ve tried the following:
• Plex version: 1.16.5.1554
• Rebooted the computer
• Rebooted the switch
• Rebooted the router
• Checked if the port was enabled and added in my Firewall.
• Checked if the port is forwarded to this computer (with the correct IP and MAC.)
• Tested through a third-party service If I could connect to the port. (It can make a connection)
• Not yet tried to rebuild my Plex server. But that will be the next step.

Someone else posted a possible fix through refreshing the token. Worth a try?

Thank you. Haven’t though of it. Sadly It didn’t work.

I’ve tried the following:

• Resetting my password and logging out of all connected devices.
• Logged out of the server.
• Restarting the computer.
• Logged back in and claiming the server.
• Tried to enable remote connection.

Then after 3 seconds it fails again.
I’ve read somewhere on the forum that someone had problem with UPnP.

• Disconnected UPnP, restarted the router. No resolve.
• Tried disabling IPv6. Maybe in the background it tries to use it? But no sigar.

Still haven’t tried to rebuild the Plex server but I will try that as an last resort.

Alright, I’ve got it fixed now after looking around in the log files.

Sadly I deleted the log files and the problem was fixed after that thus cannot share the message that was prompted.
But the solution to my problem was deleting the port forwarding in my router. Applying the settings and re-enter and enable the port forwarding which now works.

Sometimes ISP routers are really a mystery.

If someone still has this problem. I would like to help and find out what the problem is.

I Have the same problem starting two weeks ago. AT&T has not be able to help!

Same issue here. Not a double nat issue have looked into that.
