Remote Access dropping on FIOS Internet

Afternoon all:) . Having some troubles here I hope you can help with. I’ll start with my specs
Ubuntu LInux Server (16.0.4 LTS)
Plex running in LXC container
DHCP assignment
FIOS Internet - “Quantum” Fios Router
Using UPNP port assignment - Though I have tried static mapping as well.
Router reports forwarding :
“192.168.1.202:32400
UPnP IGD TCP 17413
TCP Any -> 17413
Active”
Not sure why it’s not asking for 32400 but ok.
JUST NOW upgraded from 1.4.4 to 1.5.1 so maybe that will make it moot…we’ll see
The problem is that the server keeps losing it’s external access. I have to go into Setting / Server - There is the red ! wth remote access. I can go in there, and click on Apply in the “Manual Specify Port” - It will then do whatever and access can come back. Note I do NOT have a check mark in manual port selection. The status reads :
Private 192.168.1.202 : 32400 Public 74…247. : 17413 public ip edited for privacy.
Sometimes The external turns itself off entirely and I have to click on enable remote access. This is never turned off manually by me.
It’s really tasking me. I have a friend using my server remotely and it seems at least once a day I have to refresh the access, same for my own usage. I have been using teamviewer to get into my home network and going to plex and refresh. Let me say that’s an obnoxious thing to do when you’re on only a 6 inch screen.
Any help would be super appreciated. I can obviously get logs, but didn’t want to post everything so if there’s a bit I should post, let me know

update . I just had it drop again. I pressed apply (near port selection, no manual port checked) twice this time, then it switched from enabled to disabled above, and again once I clicked enable, remote access came back. Very frustrating.

Thanks in advance

There is a known issue with the Green indicator. It loves to toggle back and forth between green and red. This is new and constrained only to the new UI.

Yes, it’s frustrating. As I and others have found, if you have PMS start up green (which it often does or goes green by itself) you’re good. Let it be, making its own port selection.

There is a secondary issue with manual port selection. This is directly related but no less annoying.

For now, while the team is focusing on a couple really very high priorities , please try to be patient? Would you agree, streaming to your devices in-home is the most important? (what they’re addressing now)

Heya
Thanks for the info. It’s not just the indicator, it really does lose connectivity. I don’t use the manual port at all either. I was trying to let pms do what it do  I do hear from my out of home user on a daily basis about it. Not sure about home being most important, but that just may be me. I ride the bus on a daily basis and some of the trips are long. My major goal for PMS was me be being able to watch out of home.

I take it from your post that it’s sort of a known problem, and I’ll try to be patient, but a major selling point of PMS was the streaming out of home, and now I see cloud as an option. I get that there are other, unspecified, major issues, and I will definitely be patient.

That said, I hope that the team may realize that in home is a major part, but streaming out of home is what many of us use it for. So if they could consider it a critical issue, I am just sure that I am not the only person who would be happy if it were to be fixed. I just went back to the home page and clicked on features. The second one listed is “Available Anywhere”. To me that implies that they are going tho make sure anywhere works. I moved from an in home only MythTV to PMS for that reason.

I might try and see if I can set some sort of refresh or have some script pressing retry when i’m away. As it stands, when I am out, I need to connect to my home machine with team viewer, log in and get to the page to refresh. Not very efficient and a somewhat a pain to do while walking down the street on a cell phone lol
Any workarounds for the time being would be helpful. I’d hate to get as crazy as triggering a reboot on the linux box every so often, that would prolly work but be a PITA if someone is using it at that time.

Forgot to mention number 5 on the list of features is sharing libraries. So Please tell someone there that 2 of the top 5 features are really about external access…So please work on it

Anyway thanks

I have the same FiOS router and I’ve been struggling with the same problem. I think I solved it. I logged into the router and went to Advanced, then Universal Plug and Play, then I unchecked “Enable Automatic Cleanup of Old Unused UPnP Services”. I changed that setting several days ago and haven’t lost remote access since.

OMG that is what I was looking for ! I never noticed it there, and I don’t know why. Wow thanks, now the info is out there for anyone else in that situation. Damn stupid thing for Verizon to put there, if you ask me. Why have it cleaning up at all? And certainly not every hour. If they were’t damn fast I’d go play with some other company. Heh

This worked for me- thank you very much!

Thanks!
This has been affecting my leechers for a while now.
