Remote access: firewall rules for security

Good morning,

I do not have Plex Pass, so I cannot access or change the LAN setting under Networks. I have two VLANs set up and I can access the server across the subnet by enabling the port 32400 and ensuring my firewall rules allow it. Works great, but i have to enable remote access to get it to work.

What do I need to block on my firewall to ensure security when having remote access enabled?
I only use remote access to stream within my home network, I don’t want it going through the internet at all.

If I may?

Rather than fussing with special rules / etc,

Why not go into your switch, tag the port the PMS system is plugged into for both VLANS.

Then, on the system itself, presuming your subnet numbering allows it, widen its perception (e.g. Change from a /24 → /23 or /22 as appropriate).

The will keep the lan “Flat” from Plex’s perspective while letting the switch do what it does best with traffic handling and isolation.

You won’t need to enable remote access because PMS will see everything as Local.
