Remote Access Issues

Server Version#: 1.42.2.10156
Player Version#: 20305.30.0 (1388)

I rarely have remote access issues with my Plex server that I host in another state, but over the last week, I haven’t been able to directly connect to it remotely on my Apple devices when connected to WiFi. My AppleTV and iOS app can only connect by relay connection on my WiFi, but when I turn off WiFi and connect over 5G, I get a direct connection.

Does anyone have any ideas? I saw the cert issue earlier this month that seemed to solve a similar problem, but the mod checked and said that was a non-issue for me.

I would expect something with your particular ISP at home or router but think would need the player app logs since the server logs will not have info about the player failing to connect directly

I’ve thought similarly. The ISPs haven’t changed and everything used to work before last week. I just uploaded the player app logs from my iOS device.

Are you running your docker container in “Network mode=Host?”

I am.

Adding some context. My Windows PC can directly connect to my server on the same WiFi network that I’m unable to on my iPhone and AppleTV. I can also access it on a MacBook through the Web Player. It’s strictly the iOS and tvOS app that seems to be the issue.

@OttoKerner Could you help me out on this? All of my remote users are able to access my server directly besides me and one other person.

The common factor between us are Apple devices (iOS and AppleTV apps) not working and having CenturyLink for our ISP. The strange thing is we both can access it through a browser on our Macs and also on our Windows PCs. We’ve tried lots of different combos of turning off our firewall and UPnP, but nothing is fixing it. It seems like Plex’s Apple apps have a bug of some kind.

I have the same issue and it has been happening for months. This has been an issue for me and other family members that use my server. The issue is the iOS/tvOS app and/or a combination of the server and iOS/tvOS. The issue has been extremely noticeable since the release of v.1.42.2.10156-f737b826c. I primarily use tvOS, but I have had reports from family members that use the iOS player. I have verified it is not my home internet or the connection with my remote server by using other client frontends (Firecore Infuse) and other server providers (emby). Both the client (Infuse) and the server (emby) are on the same hardware and use the same connections. In the case of the server (emby) it is running in a docker container exactly the same way as the plex server. Happy to grab logs, etc.

Server Version#: 1.42.2.10156
tvOS Player Version#: 8.45 (Released Jan 28, 2025) running tvOS version 26.2
iOS Player Version#: 2025.31.1 running iOS version 26.2

One of the main errors I’m seeing in my Plex media server console is “CERT: incomplete TLS handshake from xx.xxx.xx.xx:50329: stream truncated. The x’s being the public IP address I’m trying to connect from.

More testing using a Roku on the same TV with the same connectivity and I am have zero issues. This continues to point to an tvOS/iOS client issue and/or a combination of tvOS/iOS client and the 1.42.2.10156 server.

Agreed. Unfortunately, I’m not getting any responses from mods on this topic.
