I just spent several hours troubleshooting this issue for myself and for now, anyway, it’s resolved. This may not directly help OP but I found this thread trying to troubleshoot my issue, so hopefully it helps someone.
First, I have a 2-router setup (ATT Fiber + Asus router). I discovered my ATT Gateway had reset itself to default at some point, so I had a Double NAT situation. I resolved that by configuring IP Passthrough, but it did not fix my Plex issue.
After trying many other things, I noticed my router was still receiving a private IP address despite passthrough being configured. Turns out the MAC detection on my gateway defaults to the local MAC. I had to rescan devices and get the WAN MAC for router, reconfigure IP Passthrough using that, and all my issues were resolved.
TL;DR: Quadruple-check your IP Passthrough settings. It was the first thing I thought I had done, but the improper MAC ended up being the culprit all along.
I am having the same issue as others in this thread.
My Remote Access stopped working around the same time they started requiring a PlexPass for remote access. I have a lifetime plexpass and remote access has worked without a hitch for years. I can only imagine my issue results from the change in the way remote access is allowed.
I’ve seen a few reports by users who very recently got their Plex Pass who had trouble to stream remotely. Seemingly the Plex app still told them about remote access restrictions and requiring a Plex or Watch Pass. Rebooting server and app appears to have fixed that for most.
In your case, it seems the remote access is „simply not working“ (no warning about the remote playback restriction / requiring a Plex Pass…). So I assume this isn’t related.
Did you already have a look at the troubleshooting guide, e.g. verifying your port forward is configured correctly and the router is visible on that port from outside your home network (with the router’s WAN IP, the IP recognized from the outside and that seen by PMS in the remote access settings matching)?
Thank you for replying. I’ve read the support articles and related threads, unfortunately most of it is beyond my understanding. My Plex server has always “just worked”.
Is it correct that I have to go into my router settings, assign a number as a port to forward, and input that number in my remote access settings?
Yes, that’s it.
The guide has a link to a website with instructions on how to create a port forward for many routers. You can pick whatever public port you like (WAN port). The internal port on the machine hosting your PMS must be 32400.
Finally you tell Plex what public port you’ve set.
That worked, thanks. The first attempt did not, but then I changed the setting from UDP to TCP and that worked (not sure what the difference is).
Also still not sure why it stopped working in the first place after working fine for years (and the last few years on the same server). The other thing that changed around that time was I installed the AnyDesk remote desktop software, and I’m wondering if that messed with some of my settings.
I’ve had the same issue for an extremely long time now - Remote Access enables for a few seconds then goes red immediately.
I tried everything in the troubleshooting and nothing works.
Only thing that can at least somewhat enable remote access to the server is enabling the Relay in Network settings but it gimps the quality into oblivion…
I even got the plex streaming pass to see if that helps but it didn’t…
If you want to troubleshoot, we’ll need the actual output from the troubleshooting steps you’ve already taken. Not the outcome (it’s not working).
Specifically: do you have configured a manual port forward and also specified the public port in the PMS remote access settings?
Is your router‘s WAN IP and the opened port visible from outside your home network (e.g verified with canyouseeme.org)? Do the router’s WAN IP and the public IP recognized by Plex‘s remote access settings and canyouseeme.org match?
started to have this problem today. did the latest beta no luck to fix it, did a fresh install then restore.. same problem. if i stay at page all green, if i leave red… started today thought…
