Remote access not stable... Verizon Fios g3100 router problems?

Sorry bro. I know it’s very frustrating. I was dealing with the same issues for at least month. I know it’s not a fix. But try a VPN. I know there is no VPN router you can use with Verizon but when I was being blocked it was the only way that I could use Plex on the phone or tablet. I was using ExpressVPN. Until the issue was resolved. I was dealing with Verizon tech support even had a tech come out. I ended up replacing the router. Try that too. They do go bad. I have the G3100

My cousin said try the NVIDIA Shield Android TV pro 4K HDR Streaming media player.

I should have specified: You need to UNCHECK that box for Plex to work with the Verizon G3100.

RE: SWAG/NGINX - reverse proxy and SSL.

I use DockSTARTer on Ubuntu with a Rasberry Pi 4 to DIY it all at in one script/push with containers. Kind of an advanced thing though but the DNS rebind protection will stop NGINX in it’s tracks.

Ah, UNCHECK. Totally missed that…lol. Thank you for the clarification–I will see if that works. What’s the downside to unchecking that box besides potentially resolving this plex issue?

Quick update–unchecking that Stop DNS Rebind actually kills Plex for me. As in I can uncheck that and the server won’t remotely connect at all. Leaving it checked allows it to be accessible sometimes, but unchecking definitely shuts it down. Not sure why.

for me, unchecking the stop dns rebind works and the router does not have the “dnsmasq warning” in the logs anymore…

Are you both unchecking this as well as setting up a manual DNS server–like Google or Cloudflare? Because unchecking the box does stop the log from showing the attack, but now my server doesn’t remotely connect at all. Maybe I’m missing a step along with unchecking the box.

I believe I have done this (I am not at home so I cannot double check the settings right now):

  • On g3100 router: set up port forwarding like this: Verizon G3100 Router
  • Plex settings: check box for manually specify port, and use 32400
  • On g3100 router: uncheck box for “stop dns rebind”

And that keeps the server stable for you? Is there anything that you or anyone needs to do special to remote into the server?

Yep, it seems stable for me. Before I unchecked the “stop dns rebind”, it was OK – the dnsmasq warning kept showing up in the log but it was working OK – although if you went into the plex settings and actually checked if the server was remotely accessible, it was a little wonky.

Now I believe the plex settings always shows it’s remotely accessible and the dnsmasq warning is gone now.

Nothing special needed to remote into the server…

I will say that a reboot might help for those having this issue in the future after unchecking that.

I always port forward manually myself but I do believe Plex depends on UPnP on the routing side to establish it’s randomized external to internal port of 32400.

So I followed all those steps, and the funny thing is my remote connection is stable, but I can’t access the servers whether I’m on the local network or remoting in. I wonder if I changed the DNS stuff and that’s stopping me from accessing it on the local network. Released and renewed my connection on my phone but still nothing.

It’s like I can fix one problem but then create a completely different one…lol
