Running Windows 10
Verizon FIOS router
Hi,
I have been trying for a few days to get this working. My router does support uPnP and it is enabled. I’ve set up my computer with a static IP, and I have manually set up port forwarding to it using port 32400 as the internal and external port. I tried disabling the PC firewall, this made no difference. I also tried setting up the DNS servers within windows adapter settings to the DNS servers that were showing in the router settings (instead of the router IP). I’ve also tried rebooting everything several times and even setting minimum security on the router firewall.
I did work for a couple minutes one time, but that is it. I am able to get the IOS app to connect to the server, but I think it is using relay. I was trying give my Echo devices access to my iTunes library. They report back that the server is on but is not responding.
Really appreciate any suggestions to get this up and running!
First things first, check if canyouseeme.org can see your server listening on port 32400. If it does not, post a screenshot of your Plex remote access settings as well as your port forwarding options (remember to blur your public IP).
Edit: Just noticed that you’re using a FIOS router (which seem to be somewhat tricky to set up). Check out this thread which has a solution for getting it working: Remote Access - Not working
I had gone through that guide. I had previously checked to see the port was open and it is. However canyouseeme.org did not see a service on that port.
I looked at the post. It looks like he may have a different router version than I have. But it looks correct to me.
If can you see me CANNOT see the port as open then there are one of three things occurring: Number three(3) is the most likely
The Router/Firewall which you’ve configured the port forward has either not correctly applied it OR you’ve made an error when entering it. (Try updating the Router and deleting and re-adding the rule, followed by a reboot.)
Verizon is blocking the port 32400 (as they often do port 80 and 443) due to the known use case being Plex. (i.e. Verizon is in the pocket of a lot of content providers and it would be in their best interest to stop users from providing what is likely to be considered un-lawful broadcast)
Windows Firewall is being Windows Firewall and getting in the way. Try disabling Windows Firewall as a test, and then if that resolves it make sure you’ve configured the port on Windows Firewall.
I took another look at the other Verizon thread and noticed the port didn’t look like it was specified. I tried advanced forwarding and was able to specify the port, that did not work either. Next I tried unchecking the manual external port. This changed the external port to 14328. When I looked at the router it looks like it picked up the change properly.
To clarify, please confirm all network equipment you have currently in your environment including any switches or wireless access points. Importantly whether the Verizon router is the only router/firewall device in your environment.
Additionally, please double check what public IP you have by Google’ing “what is my IP”.
@rts58 Don’t be scared. I am here to try and help you. This may be a silly simple question but have you claimed this server yet by logging into it with your Plex account?
It’s not a silly question, because I’m not sure I understand. I have logged into my Plex account and the server shows I’m signed in and the server shows up on the left side of the page.
I’ll have to look up DNS rebinding.
I’m trying to connect to the server locally via an Echo device. I’m not really even interested in remote. I’ve tried remotely via my phone, it does seem to work, but I think it may be using relay.
Ok please try this. Turn off remote access since you have no interest in remote access. Then go to your server and click on Settings | Network and tell me what is Secure connections set to.
