OK, the usual question. I am trying to access Plex via the internet from outside. So far no luck. I’ve read up on it quite a bit and tried a few things, no joy so far. Port forwarding won’t do the trick, it seems to be a double NAT issue and I’ll try to get to the bottom of it but thought I post on here at the same time.
First some info I guess:
I have a Technicolor TG789vac v2 MyRepublic NBN modem/router/WIFI gateway
When I don’t specify a manual port in Plex the router picks up the Plex Media Service request and configures WAN port 32400, LAN port 21040 to my address 192.168.1.167 without joy. If I port forward 32400 the rule is set manually by me but still no joy
Windows firewall turned off, Antivirus (AVG) turned off… no joy
There must be some problem in my gateway with double NAT and I am nowhere near technically literate to figure out what’s causing the issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Your ISP is using carrier grade NAT. Unless they are willing to configure a port forward for you on their end there is not much you can do without more complicated networking.
I’ve had a similar problem to yours (on mac however) I’ve rooted the issue to the checkpoint VPN that had installed security policies that were blocking incoming/outgoing connections to plex as well as remote access and other services. Having uninstalled the checkpoint VPN using the checkpoint uninstaller (making sure it has been uninstalled cleanly) and restarting, remote access to plex has been working perfectly now.
It might be worth adding a section to the plex help topics to cover VPN’s that install these policies as they seem to be quite a popular setup (albeit shoddy) with corporate laptops.
Thats not the OP’s issue. The OP’s ISP is MyRepublic and they use NAT at their edge. The IPs handed to customers are in the 100.64.0.0- 100.127.255.255 range. These were assigned by IETF to be used by carriers when they opt to NAT customers.
Thank you for all your replies… So going by @Achilles reply I won’t be able to access Plex remotely?
I do have IPVanish VPN software installed, i might take it off just in case before resigning to the fact that I’m screwed

Not unless you setup PMS to use a different method of connectivity such as VPN. Your results will vary depending on VPN provider.

PMS does not seem to be using your IPVanish routes if it installed and running on that host. It reports the public IP from MyRepublic. @Nudlaug said:
Is there anything I can do on this screen? Disable DHCP or something?
Well all there is to say then is a big resounding “bugger!”
Thank you for your help though, at least I know now its not a simple tick somewhere I forgot so I won’t waste countless hours chasing my own tail, thanks a lot!
Now that you say that I remember them even asking me about the static IP, I deemed it useless back then, but now I might reevaluate it. I’ll call them and see how much it’ll cost me extra and decide whether its worth spending to get Plex remotely accessed… Thanks for finding that out, silly me had that info all along but totally forgot about it, talk about duuuuh moment
