Not available outside your network

Hi,

Cant access my plex serer outside my network.

Router: Metgear RAX80
Server Version#: Version 4.8.3
Windows 10

  • I’ve set my Static IP Address
  • I’ve set a port forward numerous times, changing port number in router and Plex setting. UDP and HTP… Tried manually using 32400 first and have moved onto other port numbers.
  • Can ping my PC and router outside the network
  • My external IP matches what I see at https://portforward.com/ipaddress/

Followed all the guides, troubleshooting, suggestions on forums and stuck at the moment. What are the next steps to fix this?

Thanks

Id stick with port 32400
You should specify TCP/UDP, there is no such thing as HTP
You should not be able to ping your PC from outside, just your external IP.

Please do the following
make sure you have disabled any windows firewall or allowed plex service/port
disable remote access in plex
setup a port forward for port 32400
enable remote access and specify port 32400
go to canyouseeme.org and check for success on port 32400

if it fails please post your port forwarding settings and blank out your public IP

Hi,

So I have tried that…

Get the following:

Error: I could not see your service on 119.18.1.** on port (32400)
Reason: Connection timed out

Any ideas? Read something about Double Natting. Any idea what that is and how to fix?

You are in AU and using IRT-WIDEBAND-AU as your provider?

Can you verify that on your RAX80 you have that 119.18.1.* ip on your wan port?

That will confirm if you are in a double nat or not.

Using Aussie Broadband so possibly that us IRT-WIDEBAND-AU.

Also confirming that ip address

Hello nokdim,

I am in the United States and I am getting the same results as nsozou. I am using the local electric companies broadband that they offer. I have tried everything in the trouble shooting guide. I am trying to set up remote access for a friend in the UK. She moved there from the United States and is not much into the programming there. I have tried everything that you suggested in this forum so far. I am at a loss. Hope you can help. I have a Linksys WRT1200ac router for both networks on the property. Sometimes it will say that it is available outside the network, but only for a few seconds then goes back to not available. Thanks in advance.

@Ruffone89048 I would suggest you start your own forum thread and post the screen shots I requested above.

Hi, Is there any further feedback on my issue?

Did you confirm that ip?

Hi, yes I confirmed that ip prior to my thread getting hijacked.

Can you post a screenshot of your port forwarding blanking out the public IP?

and that “Internal IP” matches your Plex server?
Do you have any firewall on the Plex server?

can you try just for testing to disable firewall and check canyouseeme.org for success?

Still can’t see me :frowning:

Try this…

Leave your firewall disabled while doing this
Download this https://sourceforge.net/projects/miniweb/
unzip and put the miniweb folder on your desktop
setup a port forward for port 8000 to the same IP as your plex server
run/double click the miniweb.exe file
use a browser and go to http://x.x.x.x:8000 where x.x.x.x is your internal IP
make sure you can see the blue miniweb default page
go to canyouseeme.org and check for port 8000

If this fails your ISP might be blocking inbound access and you might need to work with them to see how to get this allowed.

I get the blue miniweb page. canyouseeme.org fails

So you think my ISP are the cause of the issue from here?

I’d contact them and see.

Explain that you are trying to create an inbound connection to a service you are hosting and having difficulty.

The public IP address 119.18.1 is part of a /24 which just means that that your ISP can only serve about 250 end users which isn’t alot and seems small/strange so they might be doing some weird stuff on their end to provide you internet access.

I’d start by calling them and see what they say.

Hi

Troubleshooting with the ISP has worked. This is their response:

This is due to the Carrier Grade NAT (CG-NAT) that we run to preserve IP
addresses on our network due to a global shortage.

What I have done, is opted you out of CG-NAT to give you a real world address.

Might want to add this to your KB

Thanks
Nick
