I’ve just switched off of ATT’s Uverse (my rural location got me 10/1 - which was better than nothing) to T-Mobile’s “High-Speed Internet Gateway” (200/20 - much better). I’ve got everything working locally, but the device they provide (a grey cylinder called “High-Speed Internet Gateway”) doesn’t have near the networking configurability that I’m used to.
I cannot set a static ip by mac address, and I cannot port forward. As far as I can tell (web interface) anyway. I’ve tried to ssh into the device but it denies access (if I don’t use the default ssh port it doesn’t answer at all).
I’m hoping there’s a way to enable remote access to my Plex server without port forwarding. Or that someone amongst you has experience with this device.
Go to Settings > Network and > Enable Relay.
Once that’s done disable and enable remote access.
If it works, you will be able to watch your content remotely, but the bandwidth will be limited to 2Mb, probably resulting in transcoding.
I’m not familiar with their home internet options, but T-Mobile is a cellular provider so if their home internet service is based on cellular technology, you won’t be able to get remote access working.
I think I’ve seen users report hat using a VPN can get around this, but it’s not something I’m very familiar with.
Basically it’s a router that connects the the 5g network. It functions as a router but they’ve hidden a lot of the settings - for instance I can’t specify an ip range. I’m pretty sure there’s an advanced interface out there but they don’t let customers see it.
Typically cellular connections use something called CG-NAT. Basically your router is connecting to another router up stream from you, so you don’t get a regular public facing IP address, but instead get a private IP address. You would need access to that router upstream, which isn’t going to happen.
