Hi All,
I recently decided to increase my network security by setting up VLANs and putting my Plex server in one. Part of this process was to move the server’s IP from the 192 range to the 10 range. After working on this for a couple of days, I’ve got everything up and running and am feeling a bit more secure.
I have run into one problem, Remote Access clients are able to directly connect to the Server but Local clients are connected Indirectly. Before the IP address change everyone was connected directly.
Highlighted in red is my old internal IP address not the new one. I’ve searched thoroughly through Google and here but can’t figure out where that old IP address is coming from. I’ve search for that IP across my router and server (including in my DNS resolver) and can’t find it anywhere. Its a mystery why Plex is still pulling it and not the new IP.
I did stop and restart the server. Also tried changing my password and forcing logged out of all clients and turning off Remote Access and turning it on again.
Yep, Plex client and the server are the same VLAN.
Followed your instructions and removed the cert-v2 file with the server off. No change.
In terms of DNS rebinding, my DNS Resolver is on the same VLAN as the Plex server and has “plex.direct” in its exclusions. This was done before the move to VLANs (when everything was working) so I don’t think this is the issue (although I can’t see an easy way to test this).
If it was rebinding though, it still doesn’t explain why my old internal IP is showing up in Plex’s resources.xml.
I’ve actually managed to fix my problem by turning on NAT Reflection in my Router. This causes the server to show up as direct connection. However, I’m not keen on this solution as it forces all of Plex local packets through my router. Maybe the fact that this fixes the problem helps to diagnose the actual problem?
If there is still no change after the above linked procedure, please enable “debug” logging on the server. Then restart the server and wait for 5 minutes.
Then please fetch server logs and post them here (or send them to me per PM).
OMG! Thank you! Not sure why this happened but looking through the registry I noticed that there was a setting called PreferredNetworkInterface. I wondered what that was and after some googling realized that its a setting on the Networks tab of the GUI. It was set to Any but the other option in the drop-down was my new LAN IP address. Changing this to the LAN IP fixed the local indirect connection. It now also shows properly on the Resources.xml page.
Not sure why Any wasn’t working. Also can’t believe I didn’t notice that setting: I looked at the options on that page probably 25 times in the last week.
Anyway its solved! Can’t thank you enough for the help with this!
