Remote Application for iPad

What do you think about the iPad will it work as a remote or even mak e plex for the ipad? (i’m kinda disapointed of the product. had bigger expectations, and the stock market seemed to have the same as me. check apples stock index  )

It would be the ultimate control and interface. I want plex on the iPad with control capability - I’m telling you, it would be amazing!

If a viable Plex iPhone app ever gets completed and works, it will work for the iPad. The two are essentially the same thing except with different size screens. There really wouldn’t be any reason to create anything for that specifically.

… now if it had a full-scale os 10.6 implementation, that would be a different story :frowning:

I think just "scaling up" an iPhone app for the iPad would be a missed opportunity. The iPad's additional screen size and "layered menus" would be the perfect platform to take the navigation away from the "TV Screen" and put it in your hands. Rather than paging up and down your list of movies on the TV, wouldn't it be better to flick your finger on the iPad to scroll up and down the list of content? Or if you just want to listen to music, do you need to have a TV on to add more tracks to your queue? I think we've gotten accustomed to navigating on the TV screen, but only because most remote controls don't have two-way communication. Why make everyone else watch you fiddle around your library when you can just pick something on the iPad, and then send it directly to your TV. What if you wanted to skip to a point 3/4's of the way through a movie? How about a timeline on the iPad that you can just click on to jump to any spot in a movie.

Plex has some great developers out there -- Hopefully some of them are spending some time on an iPad app. Something with tight integration between the Mac and the iPad is what could really make Plex a solution for a much larger audience.

If there's any developers out there, I've got LOTS of ideas :-)

As a remote, I could see a Plex App variant of the iPhone Plex remote being useful. However, your other question regarding a version of Plex for the iPad - just go get Air Video for iPad. It transcodes anything (very very quickly) to the native resolution of the iPad and streams it over Wifi. I downloaded the trial and loved it so much I paid the £1.79 for the full app! If I’m in the lounge I use Plex on my 46" X Series. If I’m in the bedroom I use my iPad and Air Video instead. Win Win.

i use Air Video as well but it leaves alot to be desired from usability. No watched/unwatched flag , no recently added list , no music / pictures, no info / posters etc. Its basically Finder on iPhone.

There's already XBMC iPad app out , but so far it get 1 star in App Store so i guess its better to use Air Video for now :-)
