Server Version#: 1.23.0.4497-a1b1f3c10
Apple TV OS version: 14.5
Plex app version: 7.17
I have had this problem for months. I see looking back others have had this issue for years.
Although I have found no reliable way to reproduce this, my remote control eventually fails to affect the Plex app at all. This can happen while actively playing something I’ve recorded on the DVR, or when it’s paused. I see the same lack of response using the Apple’s Remote app on iPhone and IOS.
I can go a month without encountering the problem or have it happen twice within an hour. It requires my double-pressing the Display button and force-quitting the IOS Plex app to make it go away. Complete reboots of the Apple TV and/or server don’t seem to matter. I’ve had this happen using both DirectPlay (which doesn’t seem to work for me with closed-captioning/subtitles) and while transcoding.
I can’t spot anything in the server log because it’s an app problem. I have crash reports on in the app but none of the debugging options at present. I’m willing to do some debug work if guided.
Plex Media Server version is now 1.23.1.4571-6119e8eed
Apple TV OS version is now 14.6
I found that the server no longer sees an active connection when the remote goes dead, but it continues to stream in any case.
If I force quit Plex on the Apple TV, I can reconnect in what I am splaying wherever The app lost the ability to communicate.
If I quit the server, the Apple TV app will play out its buffer and pause the screen when the buffer is exhausted. A force quit or reboot of the Plex app is still required to begin playing again.
Another person is having similar control issues with audio on an Apple TV now. Can we get some help, PLEASE?
Gosh golly gee, it happened again. I was watching Thursday’s episode of The United States of Al, paused it for a few minutes, woke it from the screensaver, and the remote does not operate on the app anymore, and the server no longer sees a connection.
Just in case anyone actually responds, I did zip the log file and have the display by date, newest to oldest. Only the top 3 files could contain information from the time things went south.
Haven’t had the problem in a while. Also haven’t had a problem with playing. Direct. Both changed when I moved my Apple TV to another LAN and back.
Currently running TV OS 15, but the LAN move happened mid August through early September, and the change was immediate. Using the same IP address as previously.
Still a damn sarcastic “thanks for all the help” to those at Plex. Still, if you can learn something from my experience, great. Go make a better product.
My apple tv remote doesn’t work with plex. Everytime I open the app, the remote stops working properly, doenst respond or react to any of the commands. Double tapping is the only way yo get out but it’s extremely slow.
The remote works perfectly with other apps like Netflix, but with plex, not at all. This happened to me recently. And now on ios 15 the problem still persist.
I’ve stopped using plex as it’s a horrible experience.
