I don’t know all this technical jargon. I purchased a 2$ a month remote plex pass that is supposed to allow me to share my media with my mother. Well, it’s not working. She went to watch a movie that I own and it told her she had to pay $1.99 to watch??? Why? She’s frustrated; I am frustrated. I don’t understand what’s going on. How can I share my library with this new pass?? So confused. Glad I have Emby set up in case I have to quit Plex. Thank You.

A remote watch pass needs to be bought by the user who is watching remotely. The alternative is you buy a full Plex pass. That will allow other users to remotely watch from your server without any charges.

A remote watch pass is only for the person that buys it. So your account can watch remotely.

If you want other accounts to watch remotely from your server either you need a Plex Pass (so anyone with access to your server can watch remotely) or your mother’s account gets a Remote watch Pass which would just be for her account.

Hi,

Extremely confusing way to explain it when it showed up on my plex. So I bought a monthly pass for $1.99 a month. Do I cancel that and just buy one for my Mother? If so, I’ll just do that and pay for her. That means I do not need one?? I had a plex pass once and it did nothing for me. And supposedly I had a yearly one that ended on Dec 4 and I had no idea that I had it. It was never used. In human terms just tell me what I need to do. I know you’re making all these changes from the articles I am reading. And I only watch plex at home and My mom watches my stuff once in a while. I have other people added but they never use the service.

Do you want to stream remotely from your own server?

No

  • Buy your mom a Remote Watch Pass. She can stream remotely from your server.
  • You cannot stream remotely from your server.

Yes:

  • Option 1: Buy a Plex Pass. Both you and your mom can stream remotely from your server. Your mother does not need a Remote Watch Pass or Plex Pass.
  • Option 2: Buy two Remote Watch Passes. One for yourself and one for your mom. You can both stream remotely from your server.
