If you’re smart enough to pirate movies and set up a plex server then you can set up a wireguard vpn server too. Problem solved.
So close reading of Plex TOS results in managed users to be a violation of your own TOS?
Sharing account credentials is a violation
Not having managed users
I very much despise this tactic to force me to pay by moving existing useful feature behind the paywall.
The honorable way would be to come up with a new killer feature to incentivise me to pay. But I guess thaťs a more difficult path.
So I will reluctantly pay today, because I have no real alternative.
But I fear for Plex future as the direction this company is heading worries me.
I hope that the new half-finished app will not be forced on us anytime soon.
Let me phrase it differently: How is sharing account credentials with another family member while having managed users not against TOS, when sharing account credentials without having managed users is?
I’m worried what is going to happen to the old app tomorrow when this paywall goes live.
With a managed user, the actual device/player is logged into the Home user account, and then switched to one of the managed users
This is intended for like a household, where the Home owner logon, and then switch to like a child’s managed account
As said, a Plex Pass is a personal thing, and there is absolutely no reason what so ever to share the credentials for that
When said, I have quoted from our Terms of Service and will leave it with that
Alright, it’s no big deal either. I just wanted to point out, that your TOS are nonsense the way they are phrased right now.
I have a lifetime Plex Pass. This morning one of my remote users got a pop-up in their mobile app saying they couldn’t stream from my server without a Remote Watch Pass subscription.
My understanding is they shouldn’t need to pay for that, since I have a lifetime pass and they’re streaming from my server. I just verified that on the Watch Pass FAQ page.
They’ve logged out and back in, and checked for app updates. No difference. What gives?
They would need to use the newest app
This is not 100% the reason why it is happening. I too have a lifetime pass. Users are getting the pop up that they need to buy a remote streaming pass now. Latest updates on the app as well.
They’re on Android and they don’t see any available app updates for it. I can ask them to check again.
I’m having the same issue as @theskinners. I have a Plex Pass since 2016, and my wife (who is a Plex Home user) is not able to stream through her phone.
Any ideas?
What is the version?
My affected user is on 2025.14.0
I’m experiencing the same issue as @theskinners, family member on an iPad, latest available version of the app installed, I have lifetime plex pass, and they’re being prompted to purchase a Remote Watch/Plex Pass to access content
several posts on reddit about this too. Looks like something didn’t go as planned.
Mobile user on 2025.14.0, windows user on 1.108.1.307-dd5b87aa
We are looking into this as we speak
Guys you had one job… This is very porly planned, wtf
