I am considering setup a share for my wife’s family They have never used or probably even heard of Plex. They live about 2000 miles away.
What I was considering doing was sign up for another Plex account …and setting that up as a share with my server then just give her the login and password to it…
or maybe i can get her to come to the site and sign up on her own… would sure make it less complicated but she only has a tablet … no computer no Roku . she would have no media on the server except the libraries i share.so can this be done with a free account… she wont have and cannot afford a Plex pass
so opinions or advice?
Yes, this can all be done with a free plex account.
She does not need to install any Plex Server software.
For her tablet, she can either use the web browser to view content or do a one-time purchase of the Plex App for her tablet.
And I agree, it would probably be easier if you created the account for her and then just tell her the account info after.

That’s exactly the way to do it.
Or even better, let them sign up with their own email address for a new account on plex.tv (it’s free).
Maybe you can lead them through the process with Teamviewer or similar.
Then they tell you their plex username and you share with this plex account.

Yes this can be done and no, no Plex Pass needed on her side, except maybe a one-off fee for the mobile Plex app on her tablet (Once you’ve made sure it works in ‘Demo’ mode.)
