Remote video not hardware transcoding on friend account in Plex web player

Hi all,

I have a weird issue transcoding media for my friends account.
My plex server is installed on an unraid server in a docker with the igpu (Intel I5 12500 HD770) passed through to the container.

Media transcoding on the igpu of the I5 works like a charm for me on all my devices in my home network, also when i have my phone outside my network on 5G mobile internet or at work transcoding works fine.
This is all on my own Plex account (incl plexpass) and i own the server.

My friend has a laptop, connected wired and watches our media on my plex server, i had send him an invite so he could watch my media.
Only thing is the server wont hardware transcode when he is watching and all the transcoding is done by the CPU.

Does he also need a plexpass or do i need to add him to plex home or does he need to install the player software and not watch through a browser?

Any help is appreciated.

None of that is necessary (although the Plex Desktop app direct plays more media than Plex Web).

Upload a set of server log files that cover one of the times he is playing something and it is transcoding.

Thanks for the reply!

He isn’t at home now so ill upload the logd tomorrow morning.

Do i need to upload the whole .zip folder of all logs while he is traing a videi that is transcodes by CPU?

Hey,

I had a similar experience:
GPU: RTX A5000
Driver Version: 535.129.03
OS: Debian 12
Web player version: 4.117.3

hardware transcoding does not work when using browsers (tried firefox & chrome) when using the release 1.32.7.7621 . it is working with chromecast, android phone, windows app.
when using browser, it just buffers for ~10 minutes (if conversion is selected) before playing the video

downgrading to 1.29.2.6364 solved the problem for now

edit: the problem is and was still there with version 1.29. also persists with 1.32.8.7639 .
