Quick question I’m going to be traveling and I will be bringing my xbox one with me… I already have my plex server published for remote viewing set up and I’ve tested that it works with my mobile phone connection. I want to buy a plex pass so that I can use the plex app on the xbox when I’m away. My question is before I go buy this pass, will I have any issues setting up plex on the xbox to remotely access my plex server? Will it be as simple as longing in and automatically locating my plex server or will the xbox app only allow for a local connection to plex server? It’s very important I know this will work flawlessly before I purchase the plex pass or else my alternative is buying a chrome cast which I’m not really interested in doing.
I can verify that this does work if you have everything set up. I have done it while at a friends house 4 hours away with my box for a fundraiser he held. If you have external access setup, plex pass purchased, and the app set up on the xbox you should be able to access your library.
With that said, with the application being in plex pass preview, I guess I won't say it's going to be flawless. There is a chance something could go goofy with it. You would be using software still under testing and development and unexpected things could happen.
Another thing that could cause issues is the upload from where your server is, the download of the place you are at, as well as issues between the 2 places causing slow internet speed. There are unfortunately a few unknowns there unless you've previously streamed while at that location.
Hmmm thanks for the confirmation the unknowns do scare me a bit I feel confident about my upload ability because my ISP gives me 50 up/down. Not to sure if I like beta software contributing to issues tho, if you ask me the software should be free while in beta then when all the kinks are worked out then make people pay…, that being said I think I will still give it a try but only subscribe monthly so if it doesn’t work to my liking I’ll cancel and buy a chrome cast
