Removal of Free EPG service - Not Happy

If your a heavy DVR user then IceTV maybe the way to go. For me the Aussie free to air is terrible and only use a couple of shows to record. Netflix, Foxtel and catch up fill the void

It’s a joke. Plex, what are you going to do to remedy this for Aussie users?

If you can get Perl running, I’m working on a script that grabs data from freeview or directly from your hdhomerun device. The hdhomerun gives you 24 hours of data. Freeview can give you up to 7 days.

Sorry - this is surely unacceptable? Now - as many are experiencing under Plex v.1.16.3.1402 you still cannot load your DVR.

Plex for me is almost obsolete in usage, it is no good with music on android auto and Google home hub for me. I am am Australian who has lost the use of dvr. So plex is video media only. Not really worth the lifetime plex pass! So new users should take note and maybe test for one month before going into lifetime plex pass. For the Australian plex pass users wanting to use dvr, i have had better results using nextpvr program. It has worked better than plex ever did. So i am sad to say plex is not as good as what they advertise, not worth the plex pass, stick with the free version as i don’t now get hardly any use from it. GO DEES 2020

I wrote to the ACCC for comment. The reply is a fairly stock reply (and to follow up with the appropriate state level fair trade agency).

I do still use other features of Plex, but the trigger that made me commit to it was the DVR functionality, as I was moving over from my long time MythTV system and al the mucking about that involved. The DVR has not been great, but now it is non functional. I brought new tuners to work with it as the old ones I had were not supported.

I primarily want my DVR function back, that led to my purchase in the first place. Ie replacement for the missing paid for service.

ACCC:
Thank you for writing to us about your situation regarding digital support. We have recorded the details of your report. We can offer you general information about your consumer rights, warranties and how to resolve a dispute with a business. Under the Australian Consumer Law a product may be considered faulty if it has lost it’s functionality. Therefore you might be entitled to a remedy from the business that sold you the product or service.

How to resolve your dispute

You should contact the business that supplied you directly and explain the problem and the outcome you want. If you are unable to resolve your issue by speaking with them, put your complaint in writing – that way the business is clearly aware of the problem and what you want, and you have a record of your contact. You can learn about writing a complaint letterand use our complaint letter tool on our website.

If this does not resolve your dispute with the business, you can contact the Queensland Office of Fair Trading. As your local consumer protection agency, the Queensland Office of Fair Trading can help consumers resolve some disputes. Find out more about how to make a complaint to Queensland Office of Fair Trading on its website.

If the Queensland Office of Fair Trading can’t help, you may need to take your complaint to your state or territory small claims tribunal.

Voluntary or extended warranties

A warranty is a promise that a business makes about products it sells. A promise could be about:

  • how long the product will last
  • how well the product will perform
  • the availability of servicing or spare parts
  • what it will do if the product is faulty.

Businesses do not have to offer you a warranty. If a business chooses to offer a warranty, it can choose what promises it makes. It can also choose how long the warranty will last. If a business makes this kind of promise, it must fulfil the promise.

Warranties are separate from your automatic consumer guarantees. These guarantees apply regardless of any warranties suppliers sell or give to you. They apply for a reasonable time depending on the nature of the product or service. This means consumer guarantees may continue to apply after the time period for the warranty has expired.

Your rights: acceptable quality

Products you buy from businesses should be reasonably:

  • acceptable in appearance and finish
  • free from defects
  • safe
  • durable
  • able to do what products of their kind normally do.

If a product you buy is not one of these things, it does not meet the consumer guarantee of acceptable quality and you are entitled to have the problem fixed.

The guarantee of acceptable quality takes into account what would normally be expected for the type of product and cost.

This guarantee does not apply if the seller told you about the problem with the product before you bought it. And it does not apply if you damaged the product by using it incorrectly.

Repair, replacement or refund

You have the right to ask for a repair, replacement or refund if a product fails to meet a consumer guarantee.

You can ask a business for your preference of a free repair, replacement or refund, but you are not always entitled to one. For example, the consumer guarantees do not apply if you got what you asked for but simply changed your mind, found it cheaper somewhere else, decided you did not like the purchase or had no use for it.

If a product you own has a minor problem, the business can choose to offer you a refund, repair or replacement. If the seller chooses to fix the problem, they must do this free of charge and within a reasonable time. If the seller refuses to fix the problem or takes too long, you may be able to get it fixed by someone else and recover the reasonable costs from the seller.

If a product you own has a major problem, you have the right to ask for your choice of a replacement or refund. Alternatively, you can choose to keep the product and negotiate a reduced price for the drop in value from what you initially agreed to pay—this may mean asking for some of your money back if you have already paid. You may also be able to claim compensation for any foreseeable losses resulting from the faulty product.

A product has a major problem when it:

  • has a problem that would have stopped someone from buying it if the problem had been known
  • is unsafe
  • is significantly different from the sample or description
  • does not do what the business said it would, or what you asked for, and cannot easily be fixed.

Check out our website for more detailed information about the consumer guarantees, including a retailer or manufacturer’s obligations, how to return a faulty product and exceptions. You can also download the ACCC Shopper app to have consumer information on hand when you shop, as well as tools to set reminders, keep copies of receipts and write a complaint letter or email to a seller.

Great, now you’re going to bugger it up for all of us.

Fantastic work!!!

So aren’t you an optimist, not.

Yep, it won’t see my Hauppauge Dual Tuner, so no live tv at all. So completely useless unless you’re actually on the computer that has the tuner in

Amazing! thanks @markcs and @bridjee for [[Link Removed]. Electronic program guide (EPG) data is subject to Australian copyright laws. We’ve been informed that the previously-linked XLMTV file contains information gathered in an unauthorized manner from another source. As such, it is in violation of those copyright laws and cannot be posted on this forum. Please do not post this link or source anywhere else on this forum.] You have restored my DVR setup.

Also, i had the same issue a lot of others had recently “Unable to load DVRs”. I had to do the trick where you close/restart Plex server and then quickly go into the Live TV & DVR settings to delete the previous setup before it disappears. Where i got stuck
i was able to delete 1 of my 2 tuners
but then there was no X to delete the last one which still left everything broken. I did the same restart trick but this time i selected “Delete DVR” which deletes everything. I tried this multiple times but didn’t work until i rushed from fresh boot up, must be a short window while the Live TV & DVR settings are still working.

Music on plex is not great. Mediamonkey fixed this for me. Mediamonkey is near perfect.

Bit late here, but while I’m sure some people complaining bought their Plex pass because of the DVR option, I wonder how many of the other people whinging about “not getting what they paid for”, actually made the decision to buy the subscription LONG before DVR was even an option.
If Plex decides to add features after your initial purchase, then these can be nicely accepted as a “value add” and in no way a right for you to have or complain about if they decide to take it away again.
So in fact, you’ve been getting a lot more than you paid for. Enjoy it while it lasted.

I’m in Australia and the EPG has stopped. My shows are not recording anymore and I can’t get it working again without getting a paid service. His statement was either uninformed or a lie.

Richard, If you are a little tech savvy head over here. The solution developed by a couple of local users is far superior to what we had before anyway.

Hi Schtevo_66 - yes I’ve seen that and started working on it. Haven’t had much success just yet but I’ll keep plodding away. Thanks for your reply.

@richard.fox markcs is on this forum and is a really helpful person (if you have a question etc).

Note: I removed the @ before his name to not bring him into this thread.

I used markcs website and script for about a month. They’re both really good at what they do. Unfortunately, the information on the sites themselves is lacking. It’s fine if all you want is to see what programs are on and (individually) record specific shows. But once you want to DVR any series (and miss repeats, old episodes etc) the data to do that is just not there.

For example, I am recording Community on ABC Comedy right now (using emby, because plex DVR is unreliable). With IceTV I just select “record series” and I don’t have to worry about duplicates. With the data available through the script, it records every episode, regardless if I already have it.

It’s not a fault on markcs, the script is very very good. It’s the information that the script pulls from. And unfortunately, that is the best free info available to the Australian general public.

His HD Homerun script is 100% accurate, but only 24 hours.

He tried quite a few websites in the UK (Freeview, whatsontonight, radiotimes) but every one lacked something.
