Remove old metadata images

When refreshing metadata or rematching the old images should be removed.

Actor thumbs don’t refresh
Tv show thumbs don’t refresh

There are probably other items that don’t update. The issue seems to be present no matter which agent is used, even custom ones.

I agree, especially when trying to refresh actor photos. I have a custom metadata agent and sometimes upload the wrong headshot and when I try to upload a new one Plex won’t update it. It’s cached or something. Looking at artwork, there’s sometimes double or triple artwork that’s been uploaded. A complete mess.

Actor thumbs from a custom agent is one of the main reasons I submitted this feature request. If you’re using xbmcnfomovieimporter I may have a workaround. If you are using the global actor folder, then rename the folder. Change the global actor folder setting for the agent. Then refresh all metadata for the libraries that have items matched using that agent. If you rename back to the original actor folder name it will go back to the original images, so you have to always change to a unique folder name. Unfortunately they do seem to be caches and the photo cache is not organized by type of image so I don’t know any other way at the moment.

I think Plex uses a link in the database to the images…
I don’t believe it stores any of the images for actors…
and once it has a link it doesn’t update it…

How do you deal with the wrong actor?
I have found a lot of movies that have a wrong actor and no way to correct it.

Plex caches all the images (for actors and every image displayed). If the link changes it will re-cache the image, but if the image at the same link changes it won’t re-cache.

There’s no way to fix actors inside of any Plex gui. You either need to manually fix the XML files, which I don’t recommend. Or update the information at the host, TheMovieDB for example, then rescan the item (might take a few hours before Plex can find updated info).

Are you sure,
I know it does for Posters and thumbs of movies and tv shows…
But I have never found and actors picture in the metadata,
Do you know where they are stored?

Yes I’m sure. They’re stored in the folders inside of Cache/PhotoTranscoder and mixed with everything else.

They’re not in any manner which you could find and replace them.
