Remove the big orange play button

I like to screen capture areas of the screen of news show to email to others, but its difficult because of the big orange play button that appears in the center of the screen when you pause a video. This icon is redundant to the smaller one in the play controls at the bottom of the screen.

I request a way to turn this off.

I agree with this. Currently, if I want to grab a frame I have to record the video and then open it in VLC.

I agree, a real pain when screen grabbing.

Same here. I’m using the windows app and planning to use this to study.
I pause the video to take screenshots to take notes and the big orange play button does not allow me to do so.
Don’t want to switch back to VLC, please help with this.

Same here. I want to take screenshots but this button is in the way. Alternatively you could add a screenshot button that uses the video stream itself, rather than what’s rendered on the screen.

+1. As an artist I take a lot of screenshots for composition/lighting/color/gesture reference and that some times means pausing at exact frames to capture something. But the orange button gets in the way and without pausing it’s really hard to capture those exact frames I might need.

+1 This should be optional rather than a forced option.

Sometimes you pause a movie just to read what’s on the screen or look at a particular detail and that huge yellow circle right in the middle blocks everything. You could move it someplace else or just put it off-screen were it does not block the paused image on screen.

Mod Edit: Combined your post with this thread to avoid splitting votes. This one was opened earlier and had more votes.

Yes! Having an option to show or hide the play button shouldn’t be that hard to code. When you pause the video I have this giant cartoony play button in the middle of the screen. There is a UI player at the bottom of the screen, why is this play button needed as a visual representation to be seen?

Agree the play arrow on pause could be much less intrusive. leave it in the controls bar.

I found a work around. Just use the pop out function for firefox and there is no play button on pause. Not sure about other browsers.

Alternatively or additionally one could implement a screengrab button that does this automatically like VLC, but i don’t mind using Greenshot since a feature in Greenshot is to upload to imgur for you and a bunch of other features that Plex just isn’t about. Just a concern from somebody who likes to create & curate their own offline photo references to use for making fan art and can’t go back to using VLC after discovering Plex.

I chose to vote for this today, as I too discovered how annoying it can be.
I was trying to grab a couple of cool scenes from a series I was watching.
(Thinking I could have a great desktop background etc.)

However the orange play button does not dissapear, even after waiting a few seconds.

I agree, trying to make some posters for Plex out of screenshots doesn’t work well… how about for macOS as well?
