Webclient Photo player with an obnoxious play button

Plex photo library is not my favorite feature. Especially after it stopped saving any edits. Now the photo player displays a over-sized orange play button smack in the middle of a photo with the slightest movement. I get it, the button will play a slideshow. This makes more sense on a video thumbnail but on a single frame photo, I find it over bearing and obnoxious.

Agreed - the huge Orange Play/Pause button blocks the view of your photo for several seconds. . Plex appears to have a dumbed down set of configuration options. That’s fine, if the ones you can’t control are at least sensible. Frankly, the choice of such a ridiculously large orange play button is something that I’d expect from the “work-experience kid”. Also, the behaviour of the button is not what I’d expect from an experienced developer. It is particularly annoying when one is viewing photos because the button shows up frequently.

I know this is a long post and I apologise for being so verbose, but I’m trying to convey to Teamviewer GmBH, the importance of resolving this problem. As things currently stand I love Plex but I won’t be able to use it and will probably have to resort to using Kodi, because the behaviour of this humungous silly Pause/Play button is a deal-breaker for me - unless someone can advise of a workaround or the company makes an effort to implement one or more of the changes/options proposed below.

  1. The button is superfluous - anyone who has used a computer will know to play/pause with a click anywhere in the screen.
  2. Don’t display it in the centre of the screen - bottom right corner (say) and allow the user to move it if they wish to,
  3. Provide a SMALLER BUTTON!!!.. and/or provide a collection of different buttons to choose from via a new config item.
  4. Provide a “Display Start/Pause: button” option - possibly an integer to specify how long the button displays with 0 effectively meaning “Don’t Display”.
  5. The button is too sensitive to movement of the mouse. Adjust the conditions (Hysteresis Parameters? ) that trigger redisplay of the button. For example, display the button when the video/slideshow first starts up and fade it out after (say) 3 seconds. Only re-display the button if the mouse is moved back within the video window and has been stationary for (say) 3 seconds. There are other possibleOther possibilities and a fair amount t of tweaking required.
  6. Lose the button entirely and display a message that explains use of the spacebar to play or pause the video of slideshow .

A more general approach would be to provide the ability to “skin” Plex. I’m not interested in doing that, I just want to be able to watch the 20,000 Photos from my RTW trip without a huge Orange Monstrosity blocking my view. Yes the button disappears after about 3 seconds, but it shouldn’t’ be there in the first place. For photos this button pauses the slide show or begins/resumes the slideshow but a b. Since I often magnify an image or other wise click on it I see that stupid pointless button about 30 times over a viewing of 100 photos, If the slideshow is playing I usually miss photos because large portions are covered by the button, so I invariably have to go back to that photo and then, once again, the bloody button shows again!
