Just got the TV. I run Tartulli and use Plex Dash. For both my TV shows as TV 2020 as the player when using the downloaded Plex app on Tizen. Is there a way to change the name? I’ve checked in the app and where it seems to be in other version is not there in this version. I’ve also poked around in the server settings to no avail. Any ideas?
The Samsung TV Plex app shows:
Client Version: 5.4.2.
Platform Version 5.5
No, you can’t change the name.
Just “No” isn’t really a great answer from a Plex employee. Why not? Can this be added? It’s a pretty basic thing really. What if I have 2 of the same TV in different rooms?
This ability hasn’t been implemented in the app.
There are a few requests for this, but from the votes, there isn’t that much demand. The new Smart TV apps are still a WIP and there are other priorities at the moment. Go vote.
Ability to see the name of the device that something is being played on (e.g. "Living Room") or Rename authorized devices
Fair enough. 9 and 4 votes respectively. Sad times. I would be happy to do the dev work myself and raise a PR of that was possible. Is it by any chance?
Unfortunately, Plex apps are not open source.
