It’s gone. Well, I can’t find it anymore.
Under More, the libraries are grouped by server, media type and then sorted alphabetically.
You can pin/unpin libraries from there to the main navigation. In the main navigation you can freely sort your libraries.
So they can only be reordered if they’re pinned, then? Unpinned, they are not sorted alpha but apparently by order created, or something else, or not at all. Maybe that’s how it always was. Don’t remember. Haven’t created a new library in months.
At that point they’re not sorted alphabetically. They are in random order.
Thanks. I’ll just have to pin them then. I must have had them pinned in the distant past. Didn’t really see much need to do that for the server, but whatever works.
It was pretty recently that they stopped being sorted alphabetically. The current sort is completely random. I have 2 libraries with similar names that were created at the same time, but they show up with like 2-5 things between them. I haven’t really looked but the difference could be different players or just different times, but they aren’t consistent.
when you click on MORE under an individual server they are ordered by type (movies,TV.Music, photos, other, playlists), then ordered alpha in that type. though there is bug that they are not alpha ordered within type that will be fixed soon I am told.
They did used to be ordered only alphabetically regardless of type
There has never been any function to reorder them on that MORE page. You can only reorder the way they are pinned.
Thanks. Alphabetical was all I wanted there, anyway, so I’ll just wait it out instead of pinning a few dozen libraries.
Yeah, right now the order of the More is different on my Windows app, Android TV box, though the Xbox & FireStick are the same. The Android TV, my primary, is the worst right now, hope the fix comes soon, but I’ve gotten used to it.
Just know it being worked on doesn’t mean it’ll be fixed soon
I just moved my metadata over to an SSD and reinstalled Plex server. They are now in alphabetical order, by groups. Movies, Music, Other.
(I really can’t think of any useful reason for pinning libraries on the server.)
I do it so I can have the libraries ordered by the way I use them the most not the order Plex thinks they should be.
TV Shows first then Movies.
I see. I guess I’m just lazy. I don’t use the Plex server for anything but adding and modifying content. My ass stays lying on the couch where I use the server as a player, from my phone or laptop. I reorder the libraries (which I have over 30) and pin them on my devices only. My libraries are all audio so video doesn’t have any bearing on how I use Plex.
Anyway, that’s why alphabetical is just fine for me on the server side. Since the recent reinstall of Plex server, I’ve not added any new libraries so I don’t know where they would show up but right now they are all alphabetical once again.
I’m always reluctant to make promises but I’m told we will be switching the unpinned libraries back to alphabetical regardless of library type. I do not know how soon that will be how ever.
Well there ya go, that wasn’t a promise, more of an optimistic rumor.
Nearly every time I complain to Plex they seem to fix the problems for me! Now, if I could just figure out why I lose cover art on the server end; and, many times, when it is on the server it won’t be on another device but might on a third device. There never seems to be a pattern to it so I don’t know what to do to stop it. Embedded artwork doesn’t seem to make a difference. (Most, but not all, artwork is embedded in my tags.) Anyway, I guess that’s for a different thread…
FWIW, I personally didn’t mind that it was sorted by library type first, then alpha. I think I’d prefer that to all types jumbled together but no matter, alpha is better than random any day.
It’s now been over a month since this post, any idea what timeframe we are looking at? Days/Weeks/Months/Years?
Having the library list alphabetical again is in an alpha I saw a few days ago so should hopefully be in a public beta soon.
