Replace music genres from local media assets with last.fm agent?

When I created my music library the genres were taken from my local media assets. Is there a way to replace these with genres from last.fm?

If you really use the old decrepit last.fm agent, you will find a checkbox in the properties of the library, on the “Advanced” tab.

Libraries with the new “Plex Music” Agent have a drop-down selector for that purpose. However, it won’t fetch the genre from last.fm.
Instead, it will assign very few, very broad genres and instead will assign a more detailed “Style” tag.

Thanks - A few broad genres and more detailed “styles” sounds good to me.
Although I’m disappointed you can only set genre by artist or album, not by track.
But I’m confused.
I tried the settings you describe under Settings/Agents. But it doens’t change any genres. Do I need to refresh all metadata, or scan library files?

Is there a way to choose alternative agents in Plex?
Or do you just use MBP or similar to get data from other sources like Discogs?

So far, Plex can only store metadata by album.

This.

Discogs is not used.
Plex currently uses a combination of Musicbrainz.org, Allmusic.com, and last.fm (The latter mostly for filling in data which are missing from the other two sources.)
