Years ago I believe at one point they did support STRM files but removed like they always remove stuff
This is a feature suggestion that was mentioned a long time ago, but plex arrogantly ignored it.
Pleae implement support for .strm
Keep on waiting… Please, consider this feature.
It’s crazy that after all this time I had to move to Emby, because Plex doesn’t listen to its customers.
Really is, a shame.
What’s sad is, I had looked into this because PMS has support for STRM in a few places. There’s only one tiny piece that prevents playback and it’s easy to fix. I was going to ask about actually implementing it but then the layoff occurred.
Now that PMS is down to only 2 developers, I expect this will never be enough of a priority.
2 devs? Dang
Still no strm support? Migrating to Jellyfin.
Wow, I guess its time to look elsewhere
为什么还不加回来?这种无谓的坚持是否有必要?
I attempted to resolve this issue using Gemini an got a funny response.
”The fact that it plays in VLC is the “smoking gun.” It proves the link is alive, but your Plex Client (the app on your TV, Roku, or Apple TV) is too “dumb” to handle the direct connection to that specific server.”
Yes. Any third-party player that natively supports .strm files—such as Infuse, VidHUB, KODI, and similar players—can access a Plex media library and play .strm files normally; the limitation is only with the Plex app itself.
However, there is one exception: Plex for Android mobile app versions 10.22–10.28 do support direct playback of .strm files, provided that the files are compatible with the device.
支持strm很难?这么多年还不支持,已经落后别人太多了
Still no strm support?
really useful today,my Hard disk has gone
Please add this feature back!!!
Any update on this? It’ll really come in handy, especially with the recent price rises of hard drives…
Please add this feature. It’s really important and also already supported on other media servers.
