This is an integral part of my experience with Plex is being able to play my music library in its original format through my receiver without Plex processing/compressing the audio. This is an issue that has been raised so many times but has had no changes made.
Either bring back audio passthrough for music files that are 24bit 88/96/192kHz etc. or implement PlexAmp on devices like the Nvidia Shield…
Please upvote this post if this is something you would like as well.
I’m convinced 24 bit / 96kHz, etc. 1:1 playback is impossible through Plex app on Shield. Additionally, tested through Plex app built into LG C2 smart TV.
Testing with FLAC 24/96 and 24/192 files, my receiver, Denon AVR-X3800H, reports only sampling rate. Each time, 48kHz is reported.
Please note my experience with former receiver:
On Shield, I tried Kodi with PlexKodiConnect add-on… It was a frustrating, “crashy” experience. I can’t say I had any luck with it, although, other folks online have reported success.
Thankfully, the Denon HEOS app provides me with a workaround, albeit clunky. Enabling DLNA server within Plex settings lets HEOS see Plex libraries under Music Servers. Played through HEOS, the receiver reports playback status including bitrate. The tradeoff for 1:1 playback is that the app’s interface is not as polished as Plex nor is it easy to navigate, IE there is no search feature. Still holding out hope Plex brings this “feature” back…
I’ve been using Kodi for years on the Shield, and recently started using Plex and Plex Server. I like it a lot, and finally got it all working, except for this little hiccup.
Hi-Res audio passthrough (like Kodi) would be much appreciated.
I agree. Plex is falling behind. I’m looking at Roon now to play my hi-res music from both my private collection and from Tidal. I thought Plex could be the king of media servers, but with the numerous pleas from users (asking for this and having Plexamp desktop pass hi-res) falling on deaf ears, I’m afraid it’s time to move on and get a true audiophile experience with Roon. I just don’t see Plex stepping up their game on the music portion of their media server and players.
