I couldn’t find a solution to this but would like to see implemented in the future Plex android clients supporting airplay so that us ATV and Bose Soundtouch speaker users can use these devices with Plex.
Any comments in this regard would be appreciated, thank you.
To watch contents on my TV, I'm using a raspberry (you can choose raspbmc OS + plexbmc plugin or directly rasplex OS) which diffuse selected media chosen on my ipad or on my android devices (samsung note 3, LG gpad), using airplay function.
This is a nice, cheap and working solution.
This doesn't completely fix your problem, but think it would helped.
Thanks, I am able to to cast to chromecast and to xbmc fine. Because this is so, ATV is not entirely a priority for me but I'm sure ATV users would like this feature.
My main concern is casting to a speaker system for listening to music. I currently use Synology DS Audio and I use it to stream music to a Bose Soundtouch wifi/airplay speaker. I would prefer to use a single app like Plex for everything but I'm unable to do so since Plex does not see the Bose Soundtouch speaker.

Have you tried using the Airplay speaker options in the ATV settings? Works for me.
Ah interesting… sounds like technically that would work, only thing is the ATV is in a completely different room in the house and not practical if I just want to play some music in the bedroom to zone out to

a better airplay/dlna support is requested so many times ... but nothing happens..

its not only synology with airplay support. but also XBMC and many, many others. except plex.
Perhaps Apple and Synology have a contract whereas Apple and Plex dont? I recently attempted to get allcast to airplay Plex to ATV3 on an android phone but to no avail (hangs)
a contract between apple and synology? :D and whats with the thousands of other airplay-compatible apps ? also a contract? i don't think so.
Alright then, so let’s all ask Plex to implement airplay on non-iOS devices too!
btw. allcast should work with an ATV .. for me, it was working some time ago
Hmm.. not sure why it didn't work when I tried. I'll give it a go again at my next opportunity.
So here playing audio via airplay works
Playing video via chromecast works
But when I enable both the audio is not being played via airplay but audio and video are played via the chromecast.
While the airplay and chromecast icon in the bottom of the iPhone app are active.
It would be realy nice to have this audio and video working seperately.
