can you add as above just atm there is a big jump from 720p 4mbits to 1080p 8mbits, having a 720p 6mbits would be nice option.
Just wondering Why???
4mb is a bit low, my upload is 7mbits, having the option to use 6mbits for a stream would be nice, also some of my files are 5mbits so allowing 6mbits would allow me to direct play/stream them over internet.
LOL
Also setting it for 8mbps would allow your 5mbps media to direct play…

yes but then NOTHING transcoded with stream :D, as I only have 7mbits, most of my Movies library is 1080p full blurry rips.
Setting it for 8 if media is less than that will NOT cause transcoding.
At setting of 8 only media that exceeds that should transcode.
There really is no reason for a 6mbps setting as I understand it unless you just want your 7mbps media to transcode.

yes but my upload is only 7 :D, other stuff will try to direct play that is larger than 7mbits and lower than 8mbits;), and thus will not stream
also iirc Plex say they only use 90% of what you set in setting, plex will not use the full amount. so in reality setting will only give me about 6.9mbits
thus why I asked for 6Mbits option, to give me better transcode quality over 4mbits and allow more stuff to direct that will.

Depends on the use case. Personnally, I have 20 Mbps upload speed. Setting my max upload speed to 8Mbps can limit me to 2 upload streams (for high bitrate files of course) before the 3rd user is hit by bandwidth limitations and buffers like crazy.
4Mbps is a big jump down in quality. 6Mbps would allow me to have 3 remote sessions played back smoothly without a huge quality degradation.
Same reason why there are “10Mbps” and a “12Mbps” limits offered. If you ask me, adding another option at 6Mbps is much more useful then when you’re already streaming high bitrate. Users allowing 10Mbps to be uploaded from their server probably have a lot more than 20Mbps available, so 10 or 12 doesn’t really change anything for them, I would think. People with lower caps are the ones that need those settings.
EDIT though, let’s be honest… they should just make the “Limit remote stream bitrate” option in the server setting a user/manager writable value like they did for the “Internet upload speed” value, and everyone would be free to put in whatever value they see fit with their setup.
Ok I can see wanting to do that but I doubt any of your remote users would notice the difference .
I have my up load limit set to 3 MBPS (720p) and nobody seems to complain…
When I am remote I am usually on a tablet or phone and 6mbps would be way overkill. (The image looks great on those devices at 3mbps (720p))
My goal is to be able to have as many friends and family use my media as practically possible with reasonable performance.
I also have 20mbps up. but by limiting to 3mbps I can get somewhere between 4 - 7 remote transcodes going concurrently)
And I usually have at least 1 sling box going 24x7
yeah but 720p 4mbits does not look that good on a TV, I only share with one person so would like it to the best quality I can give.
i hope for 1080p 6mbps. A lot of Itunes 1080p Files have 5000+ Kbps and this are good to direkt Stream. 8Mbps is to big for my Connection and the Users i have.

I really don’t understand why you’re arguing against this anyway? What wrong does it do to you if we get 1 more option? I’d argue that the value should be completely up to the server manager, just give me a box and I’ll input my personal limit with my keyboard and call it a day.
@KarlDag
Sorry, I was not arguing.
Just trying to understand the reason why.
Did not know this was a sensitive issue.
Now I know why.
Thanks
Want to bring this back! Would love a 6mbps option, please.
Edit: I dont care about transcoding, just want as many streams as possible with my upstream while maintaining a certain level of quality (6 mbps)…
Lifelong Plex subscriber here.
I would also like a 6Mbps 1080p option too - the jump from 4Mbps 720p to 8Mbps 1080p is far too great a difference, something inbetween would be perfect. There is 8/10/12Mbps, so why not a 6Mbps option?
Im bumping this thread because its still not been released.
Having the option to set “custom” profiles would be an awesome thing aswell.
Example setting 720p 5.5 Mbps
Or setting 1080p 6.5 Mbps i mean just the option
either premade profiles or give the adminstrator (aka plex server owner / admin accounts )rights to being able to set there own profiles
for transcoding this would help us manage great quality and great stability
Bump for being able to set your own profiles, or a 6mbps 1080 profile. Upload bandwidth is 7.5mbps.
