As I’m sure some of you know Google announced a new Chromecast app to act as the central hub for all things related to Chromecast. In the demo they showed someone wanted to watch The X-Files and it showed all the places he could stream the content.
Ideally I would love to have Plex integrated in this same manner. Not sure if it’s possible, because some partnership with Google is needed? If it can be done, I think this would be amazing.
I’ve been searching the forums hoping someone else had the same idea. I already checked the new Chromecast app and it recognizes Plex as media, but doesn’t suggest watching anything from it.
I also am curious if Plex can take advantage of FastPlay. I think this however, might require a change to how transcoding/streaming works.

Sounds good to me - If Plex can support fastplay, have it look at tv series that I’ve watched in the past few days or last few times I’ve launched the app, and then start transcoding/preparing the next one in that line - provided that it won’t damage another already-connected plex viewer’s experience. Plexers’ servers probably aren’t as powerful as Netflix’s
Maybe do that for music, too. I can’t see a need for it for movies, though. Maybe if a user visit’s a movie’s page in the plex app, and starts watching a trailer or other extra, plex could also start transcoding the main movie’s first few minutes in the background? Not sure!
This would be a nice feature, I hate the initial buffering time. I even have a fast enough connection and yet still am getting this with the chromecast 2
