To see 4K content on a CCU, it’s impossible using current Plex version and out-of-the-box config files.
Please, add support for this device ASAP!
100 times this. Crazy popular device which is essentially not supported since we can’t actually stream 4K to it. Transcoder has issues down converting 4K HEVC files, but all it has to do is direct stream them.
It’s strange that this ain’t implemented yet.
The whole point with buying Chromecast Ultra is the hardware HEVC support (IMO). Too bad my favorite media server don’t support it 
I’ve read that it supports VP9 as well.
Another vote … I work for Google and as a result have essentially every generation of ChromeCast at home. It is endlessly frustrating that they all identify as the same device to Plex when they have wildly different hardware support. To top it off I just got a Vizio P65-C1 which essentially has a built in Ultra. I can cast 4K 60fps content from YouTube to it just fine but Plex insists on treating it the same as my 1st gen Chromecast.
I can’t imagine adding HEVC support to be hard. Plex please fix this.
Plex just needs to created a CCUltra profile, for whatever insane reason they just… have not done it. I am pretty sure lack of dev from Google is not the issue, but then again Plex no longer communicates anything with the community, so who actually knows.
Its insane that my 4k hevc videos should be transcoded when casting to my CC ultra.
We need this. Its overdue. Its 2017.
Add an extra CC Ultra profile!
Since you also took away the option to use a user-generated profile in the last App- and Server-Versions (see forums.plex.tv/discussion/244663/chromecast-ultra-profile-doesnt-support-hevc/p6), there is no more way of playing HEVC content without transcoding. Unacceptable for such a popular product!
I will waste 30 seconds of my life to up vote this, hoping someone is paying attention. Put they are most likely busy trying to port Plex to play on your Samsung smart refrigerator or washing machine. Come on Chromecast sorta works, you guys are so picky actually wanting decent support for a mainstream device.
