Request -- Display season posters for Recently Added and Continue Watching (On Deck)

I want this feature too, please do it!

Yep very keen for this as well! Voted

Would love it if this could be added at least as an optional feature.

I’ve never understood why this isn’t a “no-brainer” to Plex. You can get the season poster if you add multiple episodes to a season, so the ability is obviously there. Plex shows the Season number and episode in the text portion under the poster, so it’s apparent Plex knows what episode and season the episode is from. Showing the season poster shouldn’t require hours and hours of coding to get that result.

I have several shows that a generic “catch-all” show poster just doesn’t make sense. American Horror Story, Fargo, True Detective, Channel Zero come to mind right away.

Maybe with all of the “Improvements” they’re doing with On Deck, Continue Watching & Recently Added they’ll see that using season posters is just a logical, common sense thing to do. But don’t hold your breath.

Proper etiquette or not, I’m bumping my own suggestion up.

Maybe the crews working on the Universal Continue Watching feature and/or the New Plex TV Scanner will see it, and realize it’s more than reasonable request for a lot of reasons. It can’t be that hard to do - the info is all there, and you can display the proper poster if you add more than one episode at a time.

Just found this thread, gave it my vote.

There are quite a few shows out there that vary greatly from season to season, and in some cases are even separate shows linked together as one. Using season posters when the menu item is not to the show, would just be a really nice quality of life improvement.

This has bugged me for years; even just an option somewhere that allows season posters to be shown would be a blessing! Hopefully, this get’s bumped enough times to make it a reality!

Edited the title to include “Continue Watching” (previously “On Deck”)

I realize that the developer’s have priorities, but honestly, I can’t understand how such a simple, logical, reasonable request is completely ignored/overlooked for years. With the new Plex agents, seasons can even be “named” seasons, for anthology shows like American Horror Story, etc.

The fact that adding 2 or more episodes to a season displays the season poster properly in the “Recently Added” section on all apps says to me that the poster images are retrieved from the server, so re-coding the apps seems unlikely. It should be a simple change (hopefully)

I actually prefer having the TV Show posters, even more so since the new modern interface was released. If you have set fanart for seasons, continue watching updates with the correct artwork. Overall I wouldn’t personally want this logic to change.

But I do agree with the inconsistency on recently added (even though I have that hub disabled now and created my own smart collection)

You have confused me , or you’re referencing a feature I didn’t know existed. As far as I can see, the poster for the show acts in the same manner it has for the last ten years or so I’ve used Plex. That is, it uses the most popular/ latest season poster by default, or else it uses the specific one you have selected or uploaded manually.. And that is the poster poster Plex uses for Continue Watching and Recently Added. I have also created a smart collection for new seasons released in the last 6 months, and it does use the season poster, but that’s because it’s a container/image for the season, not an episode, so in that respect it’s the same as adding multiple episodes.

If you’re saying the fanart/background uses the season background image you have manually set, that too, is the way it’s been for years, not a new feature of the new agents.

I guess if all you ever have in continue watching is the latest season, it doesn’t matter that Plex defaults to the latest/most popular poster.

I’m talking exclusively about Continue Watching:

That’s right, there’s been no changes to the poster logic. It will fetch the most popular poster when the metadata is refreshed, unless you have manually set a poster. It has always used this logic and ignored the season poster, which is perfectly fine with me. But the lack of consistency does need addressed.

I did something similar and replaced my Recently Added with a smart collections that only displays Shows with new episodes as I don’t want season posters.

That’s not what i’m saying, this isn’t a new feature of the new Plex agent. This is actually a feature of the new Modern Content Layout. Ever since it was released, it introduced Fanart/Background on the Home Screen. But while you’re viewing Continue Watching, your next episode to watch fetches artwork from the current season (not the show). This is also unique to Continue Watching, because if you see that same show elsewhere in Plex (not continue watching), you’ll not see Fanart from the latest season, you’ll see the most popular Fanart from the show.

The only issue with this logic is that Plex won’t automatically apply Fanart to seasons even if one is available, this is an entirely manual process with a really cool experience if you’re willing to put in the work haha.

Yes please! Why not give us an option if we want to have the Season folders show up in these spots? Don’t like how some have it and some don’t in the Recently Added section. Since this topic hasn’t been updated since 3/22, is there still hope? Really want this feature!

I would vote for this, but it is the sixth thing I’m interested in and since we are so EXTREMELY limited in votes, I cannot. [Edit: I voted by removing my vote from something with a couple thousand votes – that is also being ignored.]

But, PLEASE oh great and powerful masters of Plex, PLEASE make this apparently simple change! After all, we have been requesting it (and apparently being totally ignored) now for TEN YEARS!

Apparently this has been a bug for some people during the past few months, which has since been fixed… HOW is this not an option?

This is apparently a long standing request, I would like to see the option to use either the shows poster or the seasons poster for currently watching/On Deck. For most shows, it’s perfectly fine to use the show poster for, but themed seasonal shows like American Horror Stories would be better served using the seasons posters for each episode of that season.
