I have proven that 5.1 audio playback is possible with plexamp - only through specific modification have I gotten it to work on a Pi3 on the HDMI output.
This proves that plexamp is capable of sending 5.1 audio.
Pi’s have lots of options for multichannel playback of audio - if plexamp can send it 5.1 audio, it should be able to route that to different things.
I"ve gotten test files to playback from command line tests in 5.1 on a DAC8x.
However - when it comes to the Pi5, I’ve been unable to get plexamp to cooperate at all.
Through massive research and hours of searching and AI querying, I have found that official documentation includes ABSOLUTELY ZERO REFERENCE TO ANYTHING RELATING TO 5.1 SURROUND!!!
Given that 5.1 surround playback is possible with plexamp, but is spotty and problematic, and documentation makes no reference to this, it is clear that there are huge gaps in the documentation that exists, leaving it impossible to expect an end user to determine how any of this is meant to work, or how to configure this.
I request that plexamp documentation be brought up to be current and complete, so that end users actually stand a chance of figuring out just what in the heck the devs expect us to do with this!
