I have a hard time with subscriptions, but I love the idea of this feature. Please add the option to purchase this feature outright. I’d pay $100+ easy for this.
This 100%
I second this. I don’t do subscriptions. I will pay a $100 lifetime fee, but no subscription.
+1 to this. Much happier with a one-time larger fee to support further Plex (Pass) development.
With the amazing work of Plexamp (and hopefully being routed to Plex Music), I would love to see these lifetime plugin purchases help fund and drive these more niche-marketed development projects.
I also would like a lifetime pass instead of monthly subscription. Especially if all my users could use this new feature.
To be frank, I wouldn’t even try the Plex back then, if it didn’t have Lifetime pass option.
There is no doubt this is an exciting feature. I personally couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. So, thank you Plex team for a job well done. That being said, let’s not forget, most of us only play these games whenever we feel nostalgia for the good old days. Realistically, how often does that happen? Let’s exaggerate and say once a month.
Now let’s do the math. I use plex almost every day of the month and I pay $6.49 CAD/month for it. Suddenly, I am expected to pay $3.99 CAD/month for a feature that I might use once a month?
One way to work around this problem is offering a onetime subscription fee like Plex itself. Because that way, I can close my eyes, pay the onetime fee, and get it over with, instead of looking back at the end of each month and wonder why I am paying for this service that I didn’t end up using?
Plex team, I realize we don’t say this enough, so once more, thank you for all your hard work to make this happen. You da best!
P.s. I just wrote this in a different thread, so copied it here since it applies to this thread as well

totally understand the sentiment here, but the way we license the tech and content, that’s just not practical. we do really appreciate the kind words and the excitement around the feature
Sad to say though, the product isn’t ready. There’s way too many bugs to start charging people for this. Hell, the button mappings with NES on iOS don’t even work right… B/A is mapped to Y/B for some reason? You mean to tell me no one has tested an NES game on iOS? Yikes…
Sorry, Licensing? That doesn’t make sense. whose tech are you licensing? I can’t imagine anything you are doing that would cost money. Parsec isn’t run by you so that is separate entirely and the metadata has many many free sources but you would even be better served by incorporating something like Emumovies integration. I have a lifetime of Emumovies so that would cover any ‘Licensing’ you would have, all externally. Frankly, I will literally never EVER buy a Plex Arcade sub without a lifetime option and I find it rather ridiculous to site licensing when the only thing you COULD be paying for is access to metadata which is totally on the end-user to figure out, as it should be. All of those fancy box arts are technically copyrighted by the original publisher of the game making it actually a violation of copyright law to distribute them for money. Now you can’t control what other people do but distributing it yourself? I mean, you guys are already so high profile as it is, look what KODI has become just because people CAN use it for pirated media, it’s become synonymous with theft. Of course, these are all things that all Emulation front ends eventually have to deal with but they also are free or have lifetime options. I bought lifetime launchbox too and would have NEVER bought it at all and just went with one of the very many free options instead if I only had a monthly or yearly sub.
Bottom line, I call shenanigans. I think you could easily have a lifetime, you just don’t want to or you made poor decisions and locked yourself into a contract with who know who for more than you should have.
please take a deep breath.
we do license Parsec streaming technology, and the cost is per user/per month.
Just a (strange) question/request. Will there be any consideration in the future to allow PMS on Linux/Docker be able to host non-streamable Arcade libraries (for free)? It’s weird, but it would be nice to browse my game library even if I cannot play them (actually, my fav device to play my games is a ‘tweaked’ 2ds xl). Being able to see reviews, data, etc like my music, shows, etc., would be nice (though I can see how it could be confusing for users). Maybe label it Plex Arcade Free. Unfortunately since I run PMS in a docker container Plex Arcade is a no-go for me (until Parsec supports Linux). Just a thought.
They are a corporate entity using another company’s tech to enable streaming games. Although home user licencing is free using Parsec, the corporate licencing is not free so Plex are passing on the cost of the corporate licence to the end user. Perhaps it would make sense to just have plex emulate a game host and remote client and then users could just install the parsec app on their plex server and use a free account but I’m sure this vastly overcomplicates the Plex end and means that Plex wouldnt have any developmental support from Parsec. I’m sure if the uptake is big enough that Plex will have the power to renegotiate the licencing based on a “site licence” and as such just pay a fixed fee to Parsec thus enabling them to pass on the fixed fee cost to the end users.
I 100% back this, I would easily buy a lifetime subscription for this and would make it easier to digest. Plex is an amazing platform and adding the Arcade was a huge step in my opinion. Keep up the great work and I hope some improvements are made around licensing for the arcade.
Another thing might be a family style subscription where you can buy the single subscription or lifetime and are allowed to have up to four home members or so. This would make the cost easier to digest when you are a home sharing with wife/husband/kids/etc much like with movies and shows.
You would probably want to match the current Home user limit or do something with active users in the Arcade. The Idea is you could give 4 licenses to a family and they can float between accounts and an account that is actually playing a game is eating a license. Once you hit 4 users playing there are no more licenses, but if the user closes out the license is returned to the pool.
I’d love this! I understand that you have to license 3rd party tech/features, but i wish you could somehow make it possible to pay for plex arcade with an one time payment.
See the problem with a one time licence is that you only get access to the current version of the software and maybe a few minor version updates. A subscription model is usually required to have ongoing support and the rights to the latest versions with all updates. I suspect the best we could expect is an annual licence for a fixed number of concurrent connections or maybe a “site” licence that covers one plex host per year.
