As my list of friends that I share with grows, as well as library sections, it becomes more difficult to manage what gets shared with who.
Friends and co-workers, don’t need access to everything that may share with my family.
If I add a new section, as it is, I have to go through each person and select that library. Being able to have groups that I can assign content to would mean that I just have add it to that group and all of the members of that group would gain access.
Are you creating separate Libraries for friends? Why not use the labels feature and share labels with friends. You can add a label to the shows/movies in your main TV Show and Movies libraries and then add the labels to the restrictions section of your friends accounts. See the Labels section of the Restricting the Shares Support Article for more details.
I appreciate the suggestion, but I think using tags may complicate it as tags would have to added to individual media.
Currently I have 32 people that I share content with, 5 are family that get allowed access to all content (currently 15 libraries). The remaining 27 are various friends and co-workers which I restrict access to 11 of the 15 libraries.
Currently if I add a new library, I have to go through each user that doesn’t have “All Libraries” selected.
As my list of friends grows, the maintenance is going to get more and more tedious.
The request would be to add a Groups section to the User Settings page. By default this would list the defined groups, similar to how when Friends section is selected, it lists your friends.
I’m more of the opinion that having 15 libraries complicates it more than I would care to keep track of. I add labels to the content I want to share and assign the label to those items whether a Movie or TV Show. Hopefully your feature request will gain some traction and be implemented at some point.
I like the idea much more than the label thing… I actually find the label method a big pain-in-the-ass. Having the edit every single item that goes into your library.
