[RESOLVED] Plex Has Abruptly Stopped Adding New Files & Other Strangeness

Server Version#: 1.13.8.5395
Player Version#: ? Windows Chrome Browser

A few days ago Plex abruptly stopped manually or automatically adding new videos to the Library when files were copied into existing file/folder locations on my hard drives. I have not changed folder names, I am using the same naming convention that I’ve been using for years. No error message, they just never show up.

I’ve tried

  • Cleaning Bundles
  • Optimizing Database
  • Restarting Plex & Rebooting
  • Moving files out and then back into folders
  • Checking for & installing Plex updates
  • Reinstall/Repair Plex server software.

Additionally, I can no longer edit metadata for existing items in the Library. When I attempt to do so, I simply get “Your changes could not be saved.”.

Finally, some items do not disappear from the Library even after the file is removed from folders/drives.

This all started just a few days ago. Maybe around 9/18?

Update: Am now unable to save any changes to Plex outside of Settings (add/remove folders in Libraries, delete, etc).

Seems to be gradually disintegrating. :frowning:

  1. activate debug logging (not ‘verbose’!)
  2. quit Plex Server
  3. wait 1 minute
  4. start Plex Server
  5. wait 5 minutes
  6. fetch log files and attach them here

Or inspect them yourself. Take a look at the Plex Media Server.log file and seek for messages about database corrupt or malformed.
If you find these, you may have to repair your database.

Thanks, OttoKerner. Here you are. I believe I see the corrupt error you mention. Are these the sort the repair process can fix? Plex Media Server Logs_2018-09-26_16-49-25.zip (3.3 MB)

Unfortunately yes, this is the issue.

There are no guarantees, but there is a good rate of success.

Even if the repair procedure should fail, you should have some older versions of the database file.

Which you should also put through the repair procedure, before trying to use them.

Unable to repair the current database, but I was able to revert to, repair and use an older version of the database.

Thanks, OttoKerner!

I appear to have the same issue although when I inspect the logs I cannot see “corrupt” or “malformed”. I’ve attached the logs; are you able to have a look for me? Plex Media Server Logs_2018-10-09_09-32-06.zip (4.5 MB)

The logs don’t show a server restart. You must follow the procedure above.

side note: Your server version is quite outdated.
