I have accidentally deleted my Plex server (everything but the media files themselves). The only thing I have left of it is the ‘databaseBackup.db’ file that you can download from the PMS UI.
The examples I’ve seen on restoring from a backup don’t look like what I’m seeing.
Can I and how do I get back up and running? Thanks in advance.
I suppose you’re out of luck…
What you need to restore your database is the com.plexapp.plugins.library.db-[date] and com.plexapp.plugins.library.blobs.db-[date] from /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Databases (+ some of the supporting files mentioned in the linked support article).
Did you really delete the entire Plex Server’s data folder? No more traces in some trash?
If you deleted all of those your only chance is a backup you created yourself of that drive.
If you have none, you’re set to start your server anew.
So what happened was in UnRAID I tried to add a HDD as a cache but it bugged out started telling me that the format of both the NVME and HDD cache was damaged and unmountable. It prompted me to format. I formatted it and it said it again. I knew that something was up after I formatted it for the second time and got no further.
It was only after I found out online that the solution to be able to start the array was to put the viewable number of cache disks back to 1 that I remembered that the AppData share was set to ‘Prefer’ instead of ‘Yes’. That’s when I knew I f***ed up.
TLDR: I only have the database backup from the UI. I thought that it would save me in this eventuality but apparently not. I suppose I am SOL.
