Title summarizes it. I see Plex going in a direction I’m not encouraged with, and I want Plex to see me as a paying user again.
I (like many) bought a lifetime pass, and now feel I’m being overlooked because I’m not providing revenue as a server admin.
Is there a way that I can get back into a monthly plex subscription ? Is there like a “super fan” subscription where I can essentially donate at a monthly rate ?
I’m looking for options that get me “skin in the game” again, without disrupting my server or account.
OOF, paying them any extra is certainly not on my agenda!
With the benefit of hindsight I wouldn’t have bought a lifetime pass - or ANY sort of pass.
Plex is one of THE most buggy pieces of software I have ever come across. They have a cheek to charge for it at all given the extremely poor follow up support.
A lot of glaring bugs that affect the core product never get fixes, plus the DVR debacle that cannot even get the most basic of functions working just leaves a bad taste in the mouth.
@meherenow An interesting perspective! For me personally, the product works fine - but I just am concerning with direction.
I don’t want plex to turn into “Pluto with a side of personal media management” - which it looks like to me.
I’m just trying to get those that want to petition with their funds an option to. This is probably how plex started right (a donation button thag turned into subscription tiers) ? Might be a good idea to re-implement.
Thanks @TeknoJunky . The problem there though is that the tidal project is one of the ones I would be petitioning against! ha. So supporting it would defeat the purpose in my case to sub to it.
For me - I want plex to continue improving as an amazing personal media server. I have no desire for free or paid content in plex - there are dozens of external sites (Netflix, Tidal, Apple Music, Prime, etc…) that provide a much more polished media marketplace than Plex ever could. So I do not agree with Plex’s thinking of - “Oh, their personal media is here. Let’s let them buy external media too”.
No thanks . Plex has a long way to go before it reaches the pinnacle of personal media and that goal is what I’d be donating to support.
Side note - I liked the controversial Plex arcade project. I didn’t like the implementation of it - but the goal is worth developing. I’d love a place to store and play old Gameboy game emulations next to my movies.
I want plex to let me bring the media, and then Plex handles everything else . For that I would pay much more than the current rate.
But I won’t pay a dime, and would argue “I” should be paid, if my family comes to my server for my content - but end up generating ad-revenue for plex because they thought a freebie was a movie I owned.
