Plex doesn't appreciate it's existing user base

Pretty pathetic that Plex is offering a lifetime subscription for $89.99 but only for NEW subscribers. This type of marketing is absolutely pathetic and really shows what a company thinks of its existing customers. Doesn’t this remind you of the type of sleazy marketing we see from Cableco’s and Telco’s. Shame on you Plex.

I just posted a very similar thought. I’m in total agreement and I have cancelled my subscription. This is very sleazy.

From time to time PLEX offers special promotions for lifetime PLEX Passes for next to nothing. That’s how I bought mine and I wasn’t a new customer. If you want a PLEX pass and don’t want to spend much, read your PLEX emails and look for a promotional rate.

All you people whining about not getting the lifetime offer. Boo hoo. Do you honestly think Plex is gonna be around for the next 70+ years? Half the things we grew up with are gone. I love Plex and I don’t have a problem paying them monthly. I’ll continue doing so and not lose a wink of sleep over it.

Are deals for new customers something special where you live? I mean my mobile phone contract will also not be cheaper simply because they make better offers to new clients. You make a contract with a company for a certain amount of money. If you are not happy with it, why did you make the contract in the first place?

I am not trying to get out of any contract. I just want the opportunity to lock into a deal offered to non subscribers. Like I said, it is a sleazy cable and telephone company marketing practice that treats existing customers like crap. I thought Plex was above that. Obviously not.

Will do. Thanks for the constructive reply.

I tried Plex for a month and then converted to lifetime when I decided it would be my library s/w of choice. If someone has been paying monthly for years, I ask why not commit? I guess you are asking Plex to convert you to lifetime because you have paid so much to date. Would your car dealer do the same is you leased a car?. I am more concerned with software stability at this point.

I am an annual subscriber who wanted to commit to a lifetime subscription. I am even willing to forgo the couple months on my prepaid annual subscription to lock in now! But why charge me more than someone else who hasn’t been a subscriber?

I am happy with the annual contract I made. However, I am willing to lock into a lifetime contract at a special rate knowing full well that I won’t get any refund for the remaining prepaid months on my annual contract. The issue is the opportunity to lock into a lifetime contract at the promo rate offered to new subscribers, not discontent with my existing contract. If I lock into a lifetime contract and it becomes cheaper down the road, I am ok with that. Just afford me the same opportunity to upgrade to life that Plex offers new subscribers.

plex doesn’t give a flying flock about any of it’s users.

I just posted the below to another thread…figured I’d copy and paste here, also. As far as plex marketing being “like cable”…if cable had offered me a “lifetime pass” for set amount and I’d never have to pay monthly again, I would have jumped on that…Comparing a lifetime plex pass to continued monthly fees from your cable company is a bit unfair…apples to oranges.

Cut and paste below:
"I dunno, maybe there’s something I’m not getting…

Why do folks continue to pay the monthly fee waiting to get the cheaper lifetime pass price? I’ve been a lifetime pass holder for probably 5 or more years…don’t remember when I got it. I had the monthly fee for about 3 days, figured out that I’d probably be using this for years and threw down for the lifetime at full price. Never looked back. Seems to me that the monthly fee would slowly eat away at whatever savings you are waiting for by looking for that deal month to month.

6 bucks a month for 3 years equals $216 dollars spent waiting for a plex pass deal. Actually cost more to wait than to throw down the full price at the beginning.

You’re missing the context of the comparison. The reference to cable is the similar practice of making an offer to new subscribers only, not the type of offer.

Ok, how about this? Plex already has you as a subscriber, getting 5 bucks a month, or 60 dollars a year from you. Why would they cut their own throats offering you a cut-rate lifetime pass instead of offering it to someone using it as a free service? The idea is to try to get as much $$ as possible from your subscribers. As far as they know, you’re paying your 5 bucks, using the service and haven’t cancelled…from outward appearances you seem to be a happy customer as well as the thousands (i imagine) other monthly users. Why would they want to f that up by offering a blanket upgrade to lifetime at a discount rate? Instead, they’re trying to mine the even more thousands of “free” users into the lifetime pass with a discount rate. Nothing wrong with that.

Dunno if you can downgrade back to a non-paying “free” user. That might set off some bells and whistles in marketing. Also don’t know how long you’d have to remain a “free” user before the aforementioned bells and whistles would sound. I’m sure there’d have to be a certain time to lapse before just to make sure you weren’t coming back as a monthly subscriber.

I just always wondered why so many folks will just slowly bleed money waiting for a deal on the lifetime pass when they could just hemorrhage a larger amount in the beginning, but bleed so much less over the long run. I’ve been a lifetime member for probably at least 5 years. Paid 150 bucks. Works out to 2.50 a month so far, longer I use it the less the average monthly cost becomes.

If you’re paying 5 bucks monthly and have had the service for 3 years, you must be happy with it. I’m wondering why you wouldn’t have pulled the trigger on the full-price lifetime by now at least…I’m sure Plex is wondering why too.

For me I became a Plex Pass user this year (annual) for the additional benefits not available to the free subscription. Why I haven’t done a lifetime thus far is some concern over stability I have experienced. A sweet deal would change my mind rather than look at alternative services, of which there are many. I’m not writing Plex off as I do like it, but I have now cancelled my auto-renewal to re-evaluate Plex and explore my options.
